JD Cymru North round-up | Breese bags a brace in Holywell Town comeback

Storm Bert caused havoc with the JD Cymru North fixture schedule this weekend, with only two games going ahead in the division – both on Friday night.

One of those involved league leaders Airbus UK Broughton, who secured their sixth straight league win by triumphing 2-0 at home against Gresford Athletic.

Sam Baker broke the deadlock after just 18 minutes, as a clever first touch from Joe Palmer’s through-ball allowed him to poke the ball beyond former Airbus goalkeeper Lewis Dutton.

Baker’s goal remained the difference until just after the hour mark, when the forward doubled the advantage with another composed finish past Dutton. Gresford finished the game with 10 men as striker Dave Forbes was sent off for a second bookable offence in the closing stages.

Jamie Breese bagged a brace as Holywell Town came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw away at Bangor 1876.

Corrig McGonigle had gone six games without scoring for Bangor but he opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a powerful finish from 20 yards out, before doubling the advantage seven minutes later by rounding Holywell goalkeeper Ryan Woods to slot into an empty net.

However, the visitors responded as Breese tapped the ball home from Morgan Murray’s low cross on 38 minutes, before he levelled the scoreline midway through the second half by chipping the ball over Bradley Farrar and finishing from close range. Breese’s double saw him move clear at the top of the division’s scoring chart on 15 goals.
