JD Cymru North round-up | Holywell Town net stoppage time equaliser to go top

Holywell Town returned to the top of the JD Cymru North table on Saturday despite dropping points for the first time since December as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Ruthin Town.

The Wellmen played the majority of the game with 10 men after Myles Hart was sent off after only five minutes, but they kept the scoreline level until the 88th minute when Osian Davies’ long ball carved them open and Llyr Morris slotted home.

However, in the true spirit of title challengers, Holywell found an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Julian Williams’ header struck the post but the rebound fell kindly for Danny Sullivan, who nodded in for his fourth league goal of the campaign.

Holywell’s draw allowed third-place Flint Town United to close the gap on the leaders to three points after their 4-0 win over Prestatyn Town at Bastion Gardens.

Elliott Reeves’ deflected cross found its way past Joe Lawlor to open the scoring in the 12th minute, while headers from Sol Forde and Anthony Stephens gave the Silkmen comfort heading into the break.

Flint added a fourth just before the hour mark as Reeves bagged his 30th league goal of the season, finishing from Ben Hughes’ through ball.

Owen Davies scored a hat-trick as Denbigh Town cruised to their first away win in almost two months by triumphing 7-0 over already-relegated Llanidloes Town at Victoria Park – their biggest ever victory in the second tier.

Paul Fleming netted the opening goal just before the half hour mark before 10 minutes later he turned provider for Davies, who bagged his first goal of the afternoon. The TNS loanee grabbed his second to make it 3-0 by half-time, slotting home from Nathan Brown’s through ball.

The visitors were certainly not holding back at Victoria Park and five minutes after the restart Brown added a fourth with undoubtedly the best goal of the afternoon as he beat the out-rushing Luke Evans and superbly lobbed the goalkeeper from distance.

Davies completed his hat-trick with 55 minutes on the clock before Will Holmes scored his first goal in over two years to give Denbigh daylight. The scoring finished as it had started, with captain Fleming finding the net with a powerful header.

Bangor 1876 made it three wins in their last four league games as they triumphed 2-1 away at Guilsfield.

Liam Morris and Iolo Hughes both scored spectacular goals from distance in the first half to give Bangor the advantage at the break.

Guilsfield frontman Iwan Matthews netted his 19th league goal of the season to halve the deficit in the 88thminute, but there was to be no late equaliser for the hosts.
