JD Cymru North round-up | Mold Alexandra return to winning ways as Guilsfield continue impressive form

Guilsfield continued their impressive recent form in the JD Cymru North with a 4-1 win over Denbigh Town at Latham Park.

Guils talisman Iwan Matthews latched onto two crosses from the right to put his side into a comfortable position at the interval, while Joe Haycock made it three early in the second period before he turned provider for Reece Warner to add a fourth in the 72nd minute.

Dion Gibbins scored his first ever goal for Denbigh with nine minutes left on the clock and the visitors had the chance to further reduce the deficit in the dying moments but Robbie Williams saved Nathan Brown’s penalty.

Denbigh have now lost three successive matches, while Guilsfield have picked up 10 points from the last 12 available.

Caersws climbed back into the top half as they came from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw away at already-relegated Chirk AAA.

The Colliers’ relegation from the division was confirmed at the beginning of March, but they are now playing with a new-found freedom. Goals from Louie Middlehurst and Max McLaughlin gave them the perfect start inside the opening 11 minutes.

The hosts looked set to be on course to claim just their third win of the season, but Caersws’ 17-year-old forward Callum Francis-Jones scored twice in the final 20 minutes to draw the contest level.

A point sees Chirk move off the bottom of the JD Cymru North table on goal difference, leapfrogging Llanidloes Town, whose fixture with Flint Town United on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Mold Alexandra earned a win for the first time in four games as they triumphed 1-0 over Gresford Athletic at Alyn Park.

The decisive moment came in the 56th minute as captain Rhys Nash fired home from close range in the midst of a goalmouth scramble, which came from brother Henry Nash’s corner.
