JD Cymru North round-up | Prestatyn Town earn a point to stay up and send Porthmadog down

Porthmadog were relegated from the JD Cymru North on Friday night as they were beaten 3-0 by Holywell Town and Prestatyn Town earned a 2-2 draw away at Gresford Athletic.

Holywell may have been refused a tier one licence, but they are still aiming for the league title and they took the lead with just 16 minutes on the clock. Port failed to clear a dangerous ball into the box, which allowed Jamie Breese to find captain Danny Andrews who found the bottom corner from close range.

Breese found the net himself midway through the second half as he converted from the penalty spot, while Ilan Ap Gareth came off the bench to score for the first time in over a year in stoppage time.

Holywell now need just one point from their final game of the season against Llanidloes Town to clinch the JD Cymru North title.

Defeat for Port meant that Prestatyn secured survival with their draw at Gresford, but it was not plain sailing for the Seasiders at The Rock.

Luke Wiltshire tapped home from close range to give Prestatyn a first-half lead, but a quickfire brace from Dominic Deacon put Gresford in front on the hour mark – at which point the visitors were going down.

However, Matty Roberts’ side responded just a minute later with an equaliser from Tom Weir, who slotted home after his initial effort was saved by Lewis Dutton.

Goalkeeper Joe Lawlor was the hero in stoppage time for Prestatyn as he made a stunning save to keep his side level and earn the point they needed to stay up.

JD Cymru Premier-bound Flint Town United ended the campaign with a ninth consecutive win as they triumphed 2-1 away at Denbigh Town.

Elliott Reeves gave the Silkmen the lead in first half stoppage time to strengthen his grip on the division’s golden boot, before Sol Forde doubled the lead midway through the second half with his fourth goal in as many games.

Denbigh restored hope through Danny Harrison’s own goal, but Flint held off the late pressure to round off their promotion-gaining campaign with victory.

Airbus UK Broughton fell out of the title race earlier this month, but the third-place Wingmakers concluded their season on a high as they secured a 2-1 win at Guilsfield.

The visitors failed to deal with a long ball which allowed Guils striker Iwan Matthews to bag his 20th league goal of the campaign after just eight minutes, but Airbus quickly found an equaliser as a swift counter-attack was finished off by Kaiden Cooke.

Mark Allen’s side dominated possession and eventually completed the turnaround with six minutes left on the clock as Ryan Edwards’ square ball was poked home by Nick Rushton.

Bangor 1876 confirmed a fifth-place finish in the first season in the JD Cymru North with an emphatic 4-0 victory over already-relegated Llanidloes Town at Victoria Park.

Corey Jones’ header and Liam Morris’ powerful strike gave Bangor a two-goal cushion heading into the break, while Corrig McGonigle’s 26th league goal of the season extended the lead midway through the second half.

Substitute Tom Clarke headed home a fourth goal of the afternoon in stoppage time to add to Llanidloes’ woes.
