Newly-promoted Flint Mountain marked their JD Cymru North debut in remarkable style with a 7-0 home win over Ruthin Town on Friday night.
Jack Parry and Rob Hughes got things rolling with two goals in as many minutes early on before Jack Sconce added a third in the 22nd minute. It was 5-0 by half-time as veteran forward Mike Hayes scored twice.
Mountain continued their free-flowing performance into the second half, with Hayes completing his hat-trick with 11 minutes remaining before the best goal of the night arrived soon after as Andy Brown backheeled past Ruthin goalkeeper Dan Goldston.
Also in seventh heaven were last season’s third-placed side Airbus UK Broughton, who thrashed Denbigh Town 7-0 at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Friday.
Danny Warren’s summer move from Mold Alexandra to the Wingmakers could prove to be one of the best signings of the season and he netted twice inside the opening 26 minutes.
The game was virtually over by the break as James Davies matched Warren with two goals of his own in the final seven minutes of the first half.
But Davies was not finished there as he completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark with a delightful lob before claiming his fourth – and Airbus’ sixth – of the evening with a composed finish.
Wingmakers substitute Sam Baker completed the rout in stoppage time as he headed home from Warren’s cross.
JD Cymru North champions Holywell Town got their title defence off to a flying start as Jamie Breese scored a hat-trick in a dominant 6-0 win over Prestatyn Town on Saturday afternoon.
Breese opened the scoring on 11 minutes, while Jake Roberts marked his league debut for Holywell by doubling the advantage just after the half hour mark.
Breese completed his hat-trick with two goals in three minutes in the second half, first scoring from the penalty spot before calmly slotting home past Prestatyn’s debutant goalkeeper Robbie Williams.
The victory was wrapped up in the final 15 minutes as Morgan Murray’s volley and Danny Andrews’ lob rounded off an excellent performance from Johnny Haseldin’s men.

Over 1,200 fans were in attendance as Bangor 1876 claimed a stunning 4-0 victory over Colwyn Bay at the Four Crosses Construction Arena on Friday night.
Corrig McGonigle, who lit up the division last season with 26 goals, scored a quickfire double for Bangor midway through the first half, included a clever free-kick which went in off the post.
Things got worse for Colwyn Bay eight minutes before half-time as Lewis Sirrell, who returned to the club this summer, was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge.
Bangor took full advantage of having the extra man after the break as Tom Clarke scored from close range before Mason Blackwell-Jones’ powerful strike across goal rounded off an emphatic display from the visitors.
Mold Alexandra’s new recruit Owen Cordiner bagged a brace to inspire his side to a 3-1 victory over Llandudno at Alyn Park on Saturday afternoon.
Cordiner scored 27 goals for Corwen in the fourth tier last season and on this showing the step up will not be a problem for the 23-year-old, who opened the scoring after 20 minutes.
Emmanuel Lawal doubled the lead for Mold two minutes later, but Llandudno got back in the game shortly before half-time through summer arrival Mark Cadwallader.
After a goalless second 45 minutes, Cordiner sealed the victory for the hosts in stoppage time with his second goal of the afternoon.
Caersws left it late to claim victory on Saturday afternoon as they triumphed 2-1 away at fellow Powys side Guilsfield.
The Bluebirds’ new forward Max McLaughlin missed from the penalty spot after 12 minutes before a frantic period of first half stoppage time as Rhys Hesden and then Joe Haycock scored for either side to make it 1-1 at the break.
Just when it seemed the points would be shared, McLaughlin, who scored 12 goals for Chirk AAA last season, made amends for his penalty miss by netting an 86th-minute winner to earn his new side a hard-fought victory on the road.
Llay Miners Welfare suffered late heartbreak on their JD Cymru North debut as Charley Edge’s free-kick in stoppage time salvaged a 1-1 draw for Gresford Athletic at The Rock on Friday.
Llay went ahead with 78 minutes on the clock through teenage substitute Samuel John, but his strike was not enough to claim all three points as Edge fired in a stunning set piece with the final kick of the game in the 98thminute.
Fellow newly-promoted side Penrhyncoch also earned a point on Friday night as they played out a 0-0 draw away at Buckley Town.
The Roosters went close through Cameron Allen and Ifan Burnell in the first half, but neither side were able to find the breakthrough and the points were shared at The Globe.
