Llay Welfare earned a crucial victory in the fight for survival in the JD Cymru North they triumphed 3-2 over Denbigh Town at The Ring on Saturday afternoon.
Jon Collo set up Sam John for Llay’s opening goal after just seven minutes, before Collo had the chance to double the lead from the penalty spot on 15 minutes but saw his effort saved by Aaron Jones.
Llay were made to pay as Owen Davies equalised for Denbigh almost immediately before Iwan Roberts earned the visitors a 2-1 lead at the interval. However, Collo would redeem himself four minutes into the second half as he headed home from Ruben Lima’s cross level the contest again.
The hosts were awarded another penalty on 67 minutes and this time it was Harvey Ellis who stepped up and he made no mistake, which proved enough to secure victory and move Llay off the bottom of the table. They remain nine points adrift of safety though.
Llay’s victory meant that Prestatyn Town slipped to the foot of the standings as they lost 3-2 away at Flint Mountain.
It was a frantic end to the first half at the Essity Stadium as Jack Parry opened the scoring for Mountain in stoppage time, only for Patrick Hamid to equalise almost immediately with his first goal since returning to Prestatyn.
Parry restored Mountain’s lead with a terrific curling effort from the edge of the area just before the hour mark and things got even better for Aden Shannon’s side as a third goal arrived eight minutes later from Lloyd Ellams – plus a third assist for Mike Hayes.
An own goal from Mountain defender Jordan Williams deep into second half stoppage time was not enough to save Prestatyn from falling to an eighth consecutive league defeat.
League leaders Airbus UK Broughton maintained their seven-point advantage at the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 victory away to Ruthin Town.
Despite a 37th-minute red card for Ruthin forward Sam Jones, the hosts managed to keep Airbus at bay for over an hour before the deadlock was eventually broken courtesy of a moment of brilliance from George Peers in the 72nd minute.
Peers stood over a free-kick from the edge of the area and beautifully curled past Dan Goldston to give his side another important three points in their title bid.
Second-placed Colwyn Bay extended their unbeaten run to 17 matches in all competitions as Craig Lindfield’s hat-trick inspired an emphatic 6-0 win over struggling Gresford Athletic.
Bay took just six minutes to break the deadlock as Gwion Dafydd’s low ball was turned home with ease by Lindfield, who returned the favour two minutes later to set up Dafydd for his 10th league goal of the season.
Lindfield was the provider again for Bay’s third goal, this time for Jamie Cumming in the 36th minute as he tucked away a rebound from close range. Lindfield completed his hat-trick midway through the second half with a thumping strike from the edge of the area and a simple finish from a long ball which Lewis Dutton failed to hold onto.
Dan Atkins came off the bench to round off a stellar performance from the Seagulls in stoppage-time as he fired home from Joe Williams’ low cross. Michael Wilde’s side have now won their last 11 league matches, while Gresford remain in the relegation zone.
Jake Cooke scored a stoppage time winner to earn Holywell Town a dramatic 2-1 victory at home against Penrhyncoch.
Jamie Breese continued his fine scoring form to put the Wellmen in front two minutes before half-time, tapping home from Danny Andrews’ cross for his goal in five matches.
Penrhyncoch drew level on 75 minutes as Zac Davies’ low ball sailed all the way to the back post, leaving Geoff Kellaway with a simple finish. That looked to be enough to earn the Roosters a point, until the second minute of stoppage time when Breese’s deflected cross was nodded home by Cooke to earn a crucial win for Holywell.
Buckley Town triumphed for the fourth league game in a row as they earned a 2-1 home win over Bangor 1876.
Nick Grogan put Buckley ahead on 32 minutes, but a defensive mistake allowed Liam Morris to find Bangor’s equaliser just three minutes later.
However, in-form forward Connor Littler restored the Bucks’ lead on 38 minutes to round off a frantic end to the first-half at The Globe and that proved to be enough to secure another impressive win.
Llandudno made it back-to-back home wins in the league for the first time in over a year as Adam Stephens’ double secured a 2-0 victory over Caersws.
Stephens put the Seasiders in front in the third minute of first half stoppage time as he planted an accurate header beyond Max Williams from Kieran Baker’s cross.
That was all that separated the two sides for the majority of the second half until the 90th minute when Stephens bagged his second of the day and sixth of the season to wrap up the win which saw Llandudno move three points clear of the relegation zone.
Mold Alexandra suffered their third straight league defeat on home soil as Guilsfield picked up a 1-0 win at Alyn Park thanks to Iwan Matthews’ fourth league goal of the season.
Matthews put the Guils ahead on the stroke of half-time and it was goalkeeper Luke Evans who ensured a clean sheet and all three points as he produced a stunning reaction save to keep out Owen Cordiner’s powerful effort in the second-half.
The Guils are now four points clear of the relegation zone, while Mold dropped down to seventh place.
