JD Cymru Premier Games to Watch: 19-20 September

With second tier clubs in JD Welsh Cup action, this weekend’s JD Cymru Leagues action focuses on the top-flight. Here are the key matches to keep an eye on.

Llanelli Town v Colwyn Bay (Saturday, 2:30pm)

This season’s two newly-promoted teams meet at Stebonheath on Saturday afternoon, following contrasting starts to life back in the top-flight.

Llanelli Town are rooted to the bottom of the table having lost all seven matches so far. The Reds have also failed to score in their last four league games, with their most recent outing ending in a 6-0 defeat away at The New Saints.

Colwyn Bay are targeting three consecutive JD Cymru Premier wins for the first time

Meanwhile, Colwyn Bay have earned 10 points from seven games to sit fifth in the table. The Seagulls travel south having won back-to-back matches against Cardiff Met and Haverfordwest County and they are now targeting three consecutive victories in the top-flight for the first time.

Bay’s 1-0 defeat at Bala Town last month is the only away league defeat they have suffered since March 2024, while Llanelli are currently on their longest losing run on home turf for six years.

Caernarfon Town v Penybont (Saturday, 5:15pm)

This weekend’s Sgorio live fixture sees JD Cymru Premier leaders Caernarfon Town host third-place Penybont at the Go Goodwins Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Cofis maintained their three-point lead at the top of the table with a 5-2 comeback victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel last weekend, inspired by two goals from Adam Davies and three assists from Sion Bradley in a clinical second half. Richard Davies’ side have won their last 10 home matches in all competitions.

Caernarfon Town v Penybont

After a three-match winless run in all competitions, Penybont earned an emphatic 5-0 home victory over Flint Town United on Saturday as Noah Daley starred with a brace. Rhys Griffiths’ team are yet to lose away from home in the league this season.

Bont won three out of their four league meetings with Caernarfon last season, with striker James Crole scoring five goals across those games. The last eight games between the two sides have offered up an average of 4.75 goals per match.

Cardiff Met v The New Saints (Friday, 7:45pm)

The New Saints look to continue their resurgent form with a trip to Cyncoed to face winless Cardiff Met on Friday night.

The reigning champions won just two of their opening five league matches of the season but have made a flying start to September with big home victories over Haverfordwest County (5-0) and Llanelli Town (6-0) either side of a 3-1 win over Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Nathaniel MG Cup. Another win on Friday night would see the Saints go level on points with league leaders Caernarfon before they play on Saturday.

The New Saints have won their last 11 matches against Cardiff Met

Cardiff Met are one of two top-flight teams, alongside Llanelli Town, without a league win to their name so far this season. The Archers fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw away at Connah’s Quay Nomads last weekend.

TNS have won their last 11 matches with Met in all competitions and have scored an impressive 30 goals in their last seven visits to the capital. The Oswestry side earned a 3-1 home win in the first league meeting last season, before Adam Wilson’s hat-trick inspired a 6-0 victory in the reverse fixture.
