JD Cymru Premier Games to Watch: 7 October

The games keep coming thick and fast, with a full JD Cymru Premier schedule on Tuesday evening. Here are the key clashes to keep an eye on.

Caernarfon Town v The New Saints (Tuesday, 7:45pm)

It’s third versus first at the Go Goodwins Stadium as Caernarfon Town host The New Saints in the first meeting between the sides this season.

The Cofis were top of the table three weeks ago, but have lost three of their last four matches to slip to third place – six points behind leaders TNS. Richard Davies’ side were beaten 1-0 away at Colwyn Bay on Saturday, with a red card for Danny Gosset meaning that he will miss Tuesday’s clash.

TNS have won their last six consecutive league matches to sit three points clear at the top of the table

TNS won just two of their opening five league matches of the campaign, but have now won their last six in succession to sit three points clear at the top of the table. Craig Harrison’s team eased to a 4-0 home win over Barry Town United on Saturday.

Louis Lloyd’s brace saw Caernarfon stun TNS with a 2-1 victory at Park Hall in the first meeting between the two sides last season, but the Saints gained revenge with wins in the following three encounters.

Llanelli Town v Cardiff Met (Tuesday, 7:45pm)

Cardiff Met will aim to continue their resurgent form when they travel to bottom-of-the-table Llanelli Town.

Met failed to win any of their first nine league games of the campaign, but have recorded back-to-back victories away at Caernarfon Town (3-0) and at home against Bala Town (2-0) to climb up to ninth in the table – three points above the relegation zone. The Archers are now searching for three consecutive league wins for the first time since December 2022.

Llanelli Town v Cardiff Met

Llanelli had a similarly difficult start to the season as they lost their first seven matches, but then earned seven points in the space of six days with a draw against Colwyn Bay and wins against Briton Ferry and Haverfordwest County. However, the Reds slipped back to the bottom of the table following their 3-0 defeat away at Connah’s Quay Nomads on Saturday.

The two sides last met in the 2018/19 JD Cymru Premier season, when Met triumphed in all four encounters. Adam Roscrow scored five goals across those fixtures.

Bala Town v Connah’s Quay Nomads (Tuesday, 7:45pm)

Bala Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads sit level on points in the JD Cymru Premier table ahead of their meeting at Maes Tegid.

After an encouraging start to the season, fifth-place Bala find themselves out of form with just one win in their last six league matches. The Lakesiders head into Tuesday night’s clash following back-to-back defeats for the first time this season against TNS and Cardiff Met.

Hussein Mehasseb scored twice in Bala Town’s 3-1 win over Connah’s Quay Nomads in September

The Nomads are currently fourth, courtesy of having a better goal difference than Bala, following their 3-0 home win over Llanelli Town on Saturday. John Disney’s side have lost just one of their last five games and have kept back-to-back clean sheets.

It was only at the start of September when the two sides last met, when Hussein Mehasseb’s brace inspired Bala to a 3-1 away win. The Lakesiders are unbeaten in their last seven league fixtures against the Nomads.
