Barry Town United produced a superb second half comeback to defeat Flint Town United 3-2 and claim their first league win of the season at Jenner Park on Saturday.
The Silkmen led 2-0 at half-time as summer signing Florian Yonsian set up Josh Jones following a mix-up in the Barry defence before the Ivorian found the net himself by clipping the ball over Liam Armstrong and bundling home from close range.
Barry halved the deficit just three minutes into the second half as Keenan Patten scored from the penalty spot after Michael Burke was penalised for handball in the box, while the hosts were level by the hour mark thanks to a powerful header from half-time substitute Sam Snaith who met Robbie Willmott’s corner.
The turnaround was complete in the 66th minute as Willmott robbed Jake Phillips of the ball in the final third, allowing Ollie Hulbert to pick up the loose ball and slot past Jack Flint.
Penybont maintained their lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier table with a 2-1 win away to Bala Town on Saturday – their first victory at Maes Tegid in 10 attempts.
Bala’s summer signing Kieran Lloyd broke the deadlock in the 18th minute with his first goal for the club, curling a strike into the corner from the edge of the box.
The Lakesiders may have been a goal up but they found themselves a man down just after the half hour mark, as forward George Newell received two yellow cards in the same minute after his challenge on Mael Davies led to an on-pitch altercation between both teams.
Newell’s dismissal handed the initiative to Penybont, who turned the game around in the second half. James Crole came off the bench at half-time and equalised in 51st minute from close range, before Clayton Green grabbed the winning goal 15 minutes later by turning the ball home from a yard out after Lewis Harling’s initial effort hit the post.
Table-topping Bont sit on 11 points from their opening five matches, the same tally as Cardiff Met in second and Haverfordwest County in third.
The Archers continued their impressive start to the campaign with a 2-1 win away at Caernarfon Town on Saturday.
Ryan Reynolds starred again, setting up the opening goal as his corner was headed home by Matt Chubb in the sixth minute.
Louis Lloyd got Caernarfon back on level terms in the 19th minute by scoring from the penalty spot after he had been fouled in the area, but Reynolds netted the winner shortly before half-time as he received the ball from Chubb and calmly slotted into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
Meanwhile, Haverfordwest earned their biggest league win of the season by triumphing 3-0 over Newtown at the LHP Stadium on Friday night.
The Robins started brightly and were unlucky to not take the lead as Zeli Ismail’s strike from distance struck the crossbar, but Haverfordwest grew into the game and grabbed the opening goal on 33 minutes when Lee Jenkins headed in from Jacob Owen’s corner.
Newtown’s task was made harder in first half stoppage time when Ismail received a second yellow card, with Haverfordwest capitalising on the man advantage as Iori Humphreys doubled their lead with a header from close range seven minutes after the break.
The Bluebirds added a third just before the hour mark as Greg Walters’ defence-splitting pass allowed Ricky Watts to square the ball for Owain Jones, who calmly slotted beyond Alex Swindell to round off an impressive performance.
Connah’s Quay Nomads made it two wins from two games under new boss Billy Paynter as they secured a 5-1 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel at Old Road.
Ferry found the breakthrough after just four minutes when Luke Bowen latched on to Jasper Payne’s pass and produced a composed finish, but the Nomads levelled nine minutes later as Fumpa Mwandwe headed home from John Disney’s cross.
Disney found the net himself as he calmly converted a penalty early in the second half, before a minute later the Nomads captain played a superb through ball into the path of Declan Poole, who set up Aron Williams to make it three.
Rhys Hughes scored for a second consecutive match by calmly slotting low past Rhys Wilson in the 72ndminute, before teenager Tyler Berry came off the bench to wrap up the win from close range.
