Caernarfon Town earned a crucial win in the race for the top six in the JD Cymru Premier as they triumphed 2-0 over rivals Bala Town at the Go Goodwins Stadium on Saturday.
The Cofis started the contest brightly, with Bala goalkeeper Joel Torrance needing to be on hand to make a double save to deny Adam Davies and Zack Clarke.
An opener for Richard Davies’ side arrived a minute before half-time when Clarke and debutant Josh Lock both saw efforts blocked, but the rolled out to Morgan Owen on the edge of the area and the full-back fired home for his first league goal for the club.
Kieran Lloyd saw his deflected effort strike the post in the second half as Bala pushed for an equaliser, but Davies eventually clinched the three points for Caernarfon in the 90th minute. The forward was teed up by substitute Matty Hill and sent a fierce first time strike towards goal which Torrance could not keep out despite getting a hand to the ball.
Victory lifts Caernarfon above Bala into fifth place in the table and the Cofis know that another win at home against Flint Town United on Tuesday will confirm their place in the Championship Conference. Bala’s fate remains in their own hands too, as the Lakesiders will secure their top six spot with victory away at Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Briton Ferry Llansawel climbed out of the relegation zone with a stunning 6-1 victory away to bottom of the table Aberystwyth Town on Saturday.

Luke Bowen put the Reds ahead after just 11 minutes as he glanced a header into the bottom corner from Ryan Bevan’s free-kick delivery, while Tom Walters doubled the lead just before the half hour mark as he smartly volleyed home from Corey Hurford’s cross.
Aber were given a lifeline shortly before half-time when a long ball over the top caused a mix-up between Ferry’s January signing Nelson Sanca and goalkeeper Will Fuller, which allowed Jonathan Evans to receive the loose ball and finish into an empty net.
However, Walters restored the two-goal cushion for Ferry four minutes after the break when he poked home inside the box, before Bowen also grabbed his second goal of the afternoon five minutes later by heading in Luis Bates’ cross.
While that looked to be the end of the scoring, the visitors capped off a scintillating afternoon with two more goals in stoppage time. Captain Alex Gammond slotted home from the penalty spot after a foul on Ryan George, while substitute Jasper Payne finished off a beautiful team move by tapping in Ellis Sage’s cross.
Ferry are up to ninth, dropping Newtown into the relegation zone, while Aberystwyth are six points adrift of safety. No side bottom at the end of Phase One has ever gone on to survive the drop.
