JD Cymru Premier round-up: TNS beat Caernarfon Town for seventh straight win

JD Cymru Premier leaders The New Saints made it seven straight wins with a 3-1 win against third-place Caernarfon Town at the Go Goodwins Stadium.

The visitors were kept at bay by the Cofis for the majority of the first half, but in-form Ryan Brobbel found the breakthrough in the 39th minute as he brought down Rory Holden’s cross and saw his deflected strike fly beyond Hari Thomas.

Danny Davies doubled the lead just four minutes later as he was left unmarked from Dan Williams’ low ball and placed a low drive into the bottom corner.

Ken Charles was denied twice from close range by Thomas in the second half, but the Saints eventually found their third goal in stoppage time to put the game to bed as Jordan Williams unselfishly pulled the ball back to Holden to provide an easy finish into an empty net.

Phil Mooney’s low drive two minutes later denied TNS a clean sheet, but it came too late as Caernarfon fell to a fourth defeat in five games.

Gabe Kircough grabbed a goal and an assist in Penybont’s win over Haverfordwest County

Second-place Penybont remain three points behind TNS after coming from behind to win 2-1 over Haverfordwest County at the DragonBet Stadium.

The Bluebirds took the lead in the 14th minute when Ben Fawcett reacted quickest to tuck the ball away from close range after Bont goalkeeper Luke Armstrong had tipped Ben Ahmun’s powerful effort onto the post.

Armstrong produced two more stunning first half saves to deny Dan Hawkins and Rhys Abbruzzese from distance, before the hosts found their leveller just before the hour mark as James Crole brought down a pinpoint long ball from Gabe Kircough and fired beyond Ifan Knott.

Kircough then found the scoresheet himself to complete the turnaround in the 72nd minute, escaping his back marker at the back post to meet Kane Owen’s delivery with a looping header.

CJ Craven scored from the penalty spot as Cardiff Met triumphed over Llanelli Town

Cardiff Met earned their third consecutive win by coming from behind to triumph 3-1 over Llanelli Town at Stebonheath.

The hosts were gifted the lead four minutes before half-time when a heavy touch from Met goalkeeper Sam Seager allowed Ethan Cann to capitalise and slot home into an empty net.

However, Met were awarded a penalty four minutes into the second half when James Parry fouled Jasper Payne inside the area, with captain CJ Craven stepping up from the spot to level the contest. Eliot Evans completed a quickfire turnaround seven minutes later by tapping home from Sam Jones’ header back across goal.

The Archers put the game to bed in the 77th minute as Jones received a neat flick-on from Lewis Rees and sent a fierce volley past Alex Pennock from close range. Ryan Jenkins’ side are now up to eighth in the table, while Llanelli remain bottom.

Will Fuller has kept back-to-back clean sheets to help Briton Ferry Llansawel earn four points

Briton Ferry Llansawel claimed their first league win since August with a 1-0 triumph over Barry Town United at Jenner Park.

The decisive goal arrived with just six minutes on the clock as Kian Jenkins controlled Dan Jefferies’ pinpoint long ball and sent a sweetly struck volley over George Ratcliffe into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Ollie Hulbert, Callum Sainty and Robbie Willmott all had glorious chances to pull Barry level from close range, but they were unable to find a way past Will Fuller who kept back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season. Mikey George thought he had found an equaliser for the hosts when he slotted past Fuller in the second half, but the offside flag was raised.

Fourth-place Connah’s Quay Nomads continued their bright form with a 3-1 win away at Bala Town.

The visitors made a rapid start to the contest at Maes Tegid as Ben Nash poked the ball home from close range in the 11th minute after Bala failed to deal with Callum West’s corner, before Rhys Hughes received a lay-off from West and curled home from the edge of the box two minutes later.

Bala halved the deficit in the 19th minute when Callum Bratley fouled Louis Hall in the box and Hussein Mehasseb scored the resulting penalty, while the Lakesiders came close to levelling the scoreline shortly before half-time but Kit Margetson made a crucial save deny Hall one-on-one.

The Nomads sealed victory midway through the second half when West met Bratley’s low cross and sent a clinical first-time finish into the far corner for his second goal in as many games.

Defeat for Bala meant that Colwyn Bay climbed up to fifth in the table with a narrow 1-0 win away at Flint Town United.

The only goal arrived in the 28th minute when Jamie Cumming’s low ball flew all the way through to the back post where Jordan Davies applied a neat first-time finish for his fifth league goal of the campaign.

Jordan Davies scored the only goal of the game as Colwyn Bay defeated Flint Town United

Flint’s best chance of an equaliser came courtesy of Darren Stephenson, whose close range effort was saved by Alex Brown. Davies, Ethan Roberts and Sol Forde had opportunities denied by Jack Flint in the second half, but the one goal proved to be enough for the Seagulls to come away with all three points.
