Liam Eason bagged a hat-trick to inspire Pontypridd United to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Trefelin at Ynys Park on Tuesday.
It was an eventful start to the match with Eason cancelling out Steve Berry’s opener inside 21 minutes, only for Trefelin to retake the lead in the 24th minute through teenager Roan Piper.
However, the Dragons turned things around in the second half as two strikes from Eason in the space of 13 minutes saw the new signing complete his hat-trick and clinch all three points. Remarkably, Ponty also played the entire second half with forward Luke Gullick in goal following an injury to Kane Draper.
Trethomas Bluebirds claimed their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions this season with a 2-0 win over fellow newly-promoted side Penrhiwceiber Rangers.
Ethan Edwards broke the deadlock in outstanding fashion with his volley from the edge of the area in the 29th minute, before a second half double from Gareth Tedstone – the first from the penalty spot – rounded off another impressive display from Mark Dunford’s men.
Llanelli Town got their first win of the new campaign by triumphing 3-1 against Cwmbran Celtic at Stebonheath Park.
Ethan Cann found the breakthrough with a tidy finish inside six minutes and Joe Lloyd doubled the lead midway through the first half to open his Llanelli account after joining the club from Pontardawe Town in the summer.
Jordan Meaney got Celtic on the scoresheet early in the second period, but the game was put to bed in the 86th minute as Cann set up substitute Danny Williams for the all-important third goal.
Caerau Ely equalised twice against Carmarthen Town as both sides shared the points in a 2-2 draw at Cwrt yr Ala Road.
Gavin Jones’ sixth-minute finish from Noah Daley’s assist was cancelled out by Haben Samson, but Jones and Daley combined again in first half stoppage time, this time with the latter finding the net as Carmarthen edged back in front.
However, the Old Gold were pegged back once again as Hywel Davies struck past Lee Idzi three minutes after the restart.
Taffs Well produced a gutsy performance to overcome Afan Lido 2-1 and secure their first victory of the season.
Tom Phillips turned home Josh Pope’s cross to open the scoring for Taffs Well before Lido’s teenage star Ieuan Owen equalised just after the half hour mark. However, the scoreline was not level for long as a defensive mistake from Lido allowed Sam Johnson to pick up the pieces and slot home what turned out to be the winning goal in the 34th minute.
Llantwit Major ended a frustrating start to the season by winning 2-1 away at ten-man Ammanford.
Josh Morgan put Major ahead with his close-range finish on 15 minutes and five minutes later, things went from bad to worse for Ammanford as they found themselves a goal down and a man down due to Chris Bell’s rash challenge.
Major took advantage of Bell’s dismissal as Matty Kimmins grabbed a second just before the break with his second goal of the season. Lewis Reed pulled a goal back for Ammanford with 15 minutes remaining, and although the hosts applied the pressure in search of a comeback, Major goalkeeper Jack Lansdown produced another impressive goalkeeping display to ensure his side came away with all three points.
Baglan Dragons claimed a hard-fought 1-0 away win at Goytre United thanks to Josh Williams’ terrific first half strike.
The decisive moment came with 28 minutes on the clock as Williams’ wonderful half-volley from the edge of the area flew beyond Goyt goalkeeper Luke Jones. Victory puts the Dragons on four points and gives them their second consecutive league clean sheet.
Nothing could seperate Newport City and Cambrian United as the two teams played out a goalless draw. Both sides had their fair share of chances, but both defences were on top form and neither side were able to find a breakthrough.
