Mold Alexandra know they go into Saturday’s Welsh Blood Service League Cup final at Latham Park as underdogs – but coach Mike Cunningham says his side are raring to go against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
“We know Saturday will be really tough,” he says. “Briton Ferry have had a fantastic season, they’re a wonderful footballing team.
“We know it’s going to be tough, but we’ve got players that can cause them problems. We’re confident in our own ability. There’s no pressure on us so we can go into it, relax, play how we want to play, play our game, and give a good account of ourselves.”
Mold Alex’s recent results in the league have not been as good as they would have liked, which Mike puts down to a small squad suffering injuries, but he points out that their performances have been consistent even though the luck hasn’t gone their way.
A run to the national final of the League Cup has demonstrated just how good the team can be on their day, and Mike says they will give Saturday their all.
“It’ll be a really good occasion,” he adds. “It’s a fantastic competition that’s been embraced by everyone and it’s for a good cause.
“To win the Northern section was brilliant and Saturday is a celebration of our season, win or lose, I’m super proud of the boys and their achievements this year.”
Briton Ferry Llansawel take on Mold Alexandra in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup final on Saturday 20 April (KO 17:15) at Latham Park in Newtown.
Tickets for the final will be cash only on the gate, costing £5 for adults and £2 for concessions. It will also be available to watch live for free on RedWall+.
