      1. HIGHLIGHTS

Watch the highlights from Sgorio of Cymru’s 1-1 draw with Ghana as Lewis Koumas comes off the bench to score his first goal deep into injury time.

      2. Dan James was voted the EE Seren Y Gêm following a public vote during the match.

      3. CRAIG BELLAMY REACTION

        More reaction from Craig Bellamy:

“It was an opportunity to use a lot of players, we had chances to win it comfortably. Ghana have good players and are getting ready for the World Cup, so it was good and I’m really, really happy with it. The Nations League will be a different type of game though, different challenges. We won’t have that sort of possession against Portugal for example; they’re a different animal.

“He (Lewis Koumas) could be a huge asset for us on the wing, but with our lack of number 9’s coming through the system, he can play that role too and that’s where I see him. There’s a lot to like about him. I’m over the moon that he got his goal, he deserved that and I’m delighted for him.

“I don’t like losing games. I would have liked to have won the game of course. Ghana are a good team but we had chances and we wouldn’t have deserved to lose. I think we’ve added one or two players to the squad again, and that’s so important for us. We’re a small nation in population and we have to keep adding to what we have.”

      4. KARL DARLOW REACTION

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Karl Darlow said: “I think we probably deserved the win to be honest with you. With the way that we played first half, we dominated possession and created a lot of chances so I think if we would have gone one or two goals up in the first half it could have been a comfortable result.

“It was unfortunate for the goal, it just deflected off Joe (Rodon) and hit the post and it’s gone in. So it was unfortunate and on another day we keep a clean sheet, but it’s just not to be tonight.

“I think we can all be pleased as a group for what we’ve done tonight, it’s not easy when we have to play a friendly game when we’d rather be at the World Cup. We played a side who are going to the World Cup and they’re a very good side.”

      5. MATCH SUMMARY

Lewis Koumas scored his first senior Cymru goal in dramatic fashion as Craig Bellamy’s side earned a deserved 1-1 draw against FIFA World Cup finalists Ghana at Cardiff City Stadium.

In a fixture marking the Football Association of Wales’ 150th anniversary, Cymru produced an encouraging performance against a talented Ghana side preparing for this summer’s World Cup, demonstrating both quality and character throughout the contest.

Bellamy’s team started brightly and could have been ahead inside the opening 15 minutes. Dan James was a constant threat and twice came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock. First, Lawrence Ati-Zigi produced a remarkable save to claw away his powerful header before the Leeds United winger struck the crossbar moments later following another flowing Cymru move.

Cymru continued to control large spells of possession and created the better openings during the first half, while Karl Darlow remained alert when called upon to keep the scores level.

Ghana improved after the interval and took the lead on 66 minutes. Darlow made an excellent initial save from Prince Kwabena Adu, but substitute Caleb Yirenkyi reacted quickest to convert at the second attempt after his first effort struck the post.

The visitors, who will compete on football’s biggest stage later this year, looked set to leave Cardiff with victory, but Cymru refused to relent.

Their persistence was rewarded deep into stoppage time when Neco Williams delivered an inviting cross into the penalty area and Koumas dived bravely to head beyond the goalkeeper.

The dramatic equaliser ensured Cymru finished the evening unbeaten and provided another positive step in Bellamy’s preparations for the UEFA Nations League campaign ahead.

      6. FULL-TIME SUMMARY:

Lewis Koumas scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser as Cymru earned a deserved 1-1 draw with Ghana in Cardiff. After Caleb Yirenkyi’s second-half opener threatened to separate the sides, Craig Bellamy’s team showed character and persistence, with Koumas heading home his first goal for Cymru late on to cap an encouraging performance.

      8. A diving header from Koumas levels the match for Cymru. The young striker did incredibly well to finish under pressure. Williams played the ball into the box for Koumas to score his first goal for Cymru.

      9. Sheehan strikes from distance but his shot sails over the crossbar.

      10. There will be 5 minutes of added time.

      11. Time is running out for Cymru but they’re looking for that equaliser. Norrington-Davies puts a ball into the box from the left but as Broadhead attacks the ball Ghana get it to the relative safety of a corner.

      25. Congreve does well on the left to trick his opponent before bending a nice looking cross into the box. He’s looking for Koumas but a defender beats him to the ball.

      26. When a Cymru move breaks down, Ghana are quick to counter-attack committing players forward. Thomas-Asante looked likely to increase Ghana’s lead but he snatched at the ball and sent his effort well wide.

      27. Koumas is picked out by Williams with a searching ball into the box but the young defender heads wide as Cymru search for an equaliser.

      28. Ghana are on top here as Opoku goes close but is denied by Darlow.

      128. SECOND HALF

Ghana get the game back underway.

      129. HALF-TIME SUMMARY:

Cymru can take plenty of encouragement from an impressive first-half display against Ghana as Craig Bellamy’s side headed into the break level at 0-0. Dan James was the standout performer, twice coming agonisingly close to opening the scoring, striking the woodwork and forcing a remarkable save from Lawrence Ati-Zigi. Cymru controlled large periods of the half with their energy, movement and attacking intent, creating the clearer opportunities and showcasing their quality in possession. Ghana grew into the contest late on, but Karl Darlow remained alert when called upon, ensuring Cymru maintained parity heading into the second half.

      130. Darlow is forced into tipping the ball over the bar after Senya’s shot deflects off the back of Thomas.

      131. Brooks takes the resulting free kick but the Ghana wall do their job and block the strike.

      132. Brooks was in full flow at the edge of the box. As he was about to shoot, he’s brought down with a cynical challenge by Partey. He’s already on a yellow and looks incredibly lucky not to receive a second.

      133. This has been Ghana’s best period of the half and it’s pleasing their travelling fans who are urging them on.

      134. Ayew takes the corner but Moore heads the ball behind for another corner.

      135. Williams gets another block in as the ball goes behind for a corner. Ghana are starting to bring themselves into the game and are playing much better.

      136. Sulemana gets a shot away from the edge of the box after Ghana found space in Cymru’s half of the pitch. As Sulemana struck the ball, a sliding challenge from Williams took the sting out of the ball, allowing Darlow to make an easier save from the effort.

      146. An error from Darlow sees him underplay a pass to Rodon inside his box, giving it to Ayew. The Ghana striker looked certain to score but Darlow recovered to smother the ball and save his blushes.

      147. Cymru move the ball down the lefthand side and as Brooks receives possession he’s in space to shoot. Brooks strikes cleanly but Ati-Zigi positions himself to make a comfortable save.

      148. James is enjoying himself here at the Cardiff City Stadium and will feel that he should be on the scoresheet.

      149. James is on fire again as he uses his pace to break through the defence again. He squares a pass into Sheehan’s run but a defenders leg gets to the ball just as the Cymru midfielder is about to shoot.

      150. Fantastic play from Cymru with plenty of passing and after some trickery, James is presented with another chance but this time hits the crossbar. Cymru should be in the lead.

      151. How are Cymru not in the lead?! James gets himself on to the end of a corner into the box with a fantastic header but somehow Ati-Zigi dives back across his goal to claw the ball away and onto the post.

      152. 📸 The line-up and that 150th Anniversary shirt.

      153. With 10 minutes played, Craig Bellamy will be pleased with what he’s seen from his Cymru team so far. They’ve settled into the match better than Ghana.

      154. A fantastic attack by Cymru saw Williams play a superb through ball for James who used his pace to run past the defender.

      155. James is barged over by Mensah in the Ghana half of the match and it gives Cymru the opportunity to force the ball forward from the resulting free kick.

      156. KICK OFF! Cymru get this 150th Anniversary match underway.

      157. Here’s how Cymru line up in tonight’s 150th anniversary fixture against Ghana.

      158. MEET THE REF

Oscar Johnson will take charge of the international challenge match between Cymru and Ghana at the Cardiff City Stadium this evening.

The 32-year-old from Sweden officiates in the Allsvenskan, the top division in his country, and has also officiated in the UEFA Youth League and Conference League qualifiers this season as well as UEFA U17 and U21 international qualifiers.

Niklas Nyberg and Marcus Lundgren Klitte are the Assistant Referees while Erik Mattsson is the Fourth Official.

      159. BELLAMY COMMITTED TO CYMRU

Cymru head coach Craig Bellamy reiterated his commitment to leading his country through to EURO 2028 when he addressed the media on Monday afternoon.

“Everything’s in place, I get completely backed and it’s going to give me the opportunity in the next two years to improve again,” said Bellamy. “Links? I understand it, but I don’t look too far. I love what I have here.

“I’ve been offered that elsewhere as well, but I have this here already. Wales gave me this opportunity and one or two might not have because I was conscious I haven’t managed before. Wales have given me this opportunity and I’m really grateful for that.”

Bellamy’s side take on Ghana in Cardiff on Tuesday evening before heading to Bucharest to face Romania on Saturday 6 June. The fixtures will play an important part in preparing for the UEFA Nations League that returns in September.

“I couldn’t see it being fair for me to walk away,” Bellamy added. “That’s not right. I’ve always wanted to do this role, so I don’t want to wish this away. I get great backing, you know, and that’s all I can ask for.”

Bellamy also spoke about Cymru’s record in fixtures played at this time of year. “When I look at our record in June, June friendlies or June competitive games, it’s nowhere near good enough,” he added. “You want to be a serious nation? We have to correct that.”

      160. JAMES FOCUSED ON EXCITING CYMRU FUTURE

Dan James spoke to the media on Monday afternoon about taking on Ghana and Romania, the influence of Craig Bellamy and missing out on a place at the World Cup.

“Having a manager like Craig has been absolutely brilliant for us,” said James. “You’ve seen how we’ve developed over the last couple of years.

“Not reaching the World Cup is still very fresh in our minds, but as players and staff, we’re super proud of how far we’ve come and how we’ve performed, and now we have to push on.

“We’ve got massive games coming up, these two games coming up are so important going into the Nations League. We want to stay in League A, and we’ve got a home EURO’s to look forward to, and it starts now.

“You look at our stats and we’re competing with some of the top teams in the world. It’s something that we want to keep improving on because we believe we should be at major tournaments, and we’re super focused on these next games now.

“They (Ghana) have a lot of threats all over the pitch and they’ve qualified for the World Cup. We treat every game the same, we want to implement the way we play in every game and showcase what we can do.”

      161. CYMRU PREPARING FOR BLACK STARS TEST

The Cymru squad were back on the training ground over the weekend in preparation for Tuesday’s international challenge match against Ghana at the Cardiff City Stadium (KO 19:45). Tickets for the match can be purchased here.

Following the match Ghana will head to the FIFA World Cup where they will take on Panama, England and Croatia in Group L. Last month they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mexico and head coach Carlos Queiroz will be looking for an improved performance from his side.

Meanwhile, Cymru will use the match as preparation for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. Craig Bellamy’s side are back in League A and will take on Portugal, Denmark and Norway when the competition returns in September.

      162. SHEEHAN LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT CYMRU CHALLENGE

Cymru midfielder Josh Sheehan is looking past the disappointment of missing out on a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Craig Bellamy’s side prepare to take on Ghana in Cardiff on Tuesday night.

“Of course there’s disappointment,” said Sheehan. “We all wish we were preparing for the World Cup right now, but we’re not. It’s disappointing, but we have to learn from it.

“We believe we should have been there, but now our focus is on the Nations League and the challenges ahead.

“We’ve got to learn from what happened and look forward. We’ve got some big games coming up and that’s the level we believe we should be at. We want to keep moving forward as a group.”

      163. PREPARATIONS CONTINUE

The Cymru squad were on the training ground on Friday in preparation for the international challenge match against Ghana at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 2 June (KO 19:45).

This will be the first time that Cymru has ever hosted an African nation and tickets for the match are available here.

Craig Bellamy’s side will then travel to Bucharest to take on Romania on Saturday 6 June.

      164. BACK ON CAMP

The Cymru squad have arrived on camp for the upcoming fixtures against Ghana and Romania as Craig Bellamy’s side begin their preparations for the next UEFA Nations League campaign that starts in September.

“They’re two very, very different challenges, but challenges that can really help us improve because I see big improvements in the team,” explained Bellamy. “We have to improve, I have to improve as a coach, and those two factors motivate me a lot.”

Ghana arrived in Wales on Monday and have been training at Dragon Park as head coach Carlos Queiroz completes his preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup where they will take on England, Croatia and Panama in Group L.

Tickets for the match against Ghana at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 2 June are available here. Cymru will then head to Bucharest to take on Romania on Saturday 6 June.

Cymru and Romania both missed out on a place at the World Cup through play-off defeats in March, but they have been boosted by the return of a legendary figure in Gheorghe Hagi as head coach following his recent appointment for a second spell in charge of his country.

“It will be nice to come up against him,” said Bellamy. “But also nice to see what he thinks of us as well.”

      165. PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Not only will this be the first ever match between Cymru and Ghana, but it will also be the first time that Cymru has hosted a match against African opposition.

The only previous match between Cymru and an African nation was back in June 1998 when Bobby Gould took his side to the El Menzah Stadium in Tunis for a friendly international against Tunisia. Cymru went into the match on the back of a 3-0 win over Malta in Valletta just two days earlier, but things did not go to plan.

John Hartson, Mark Pembridge and current Cymru head coach Craig Bellamy had scored in the win over Malta and all three were in the starting line-up for the match against Tunisia. For Bellamy, the win in Malta marked a first senior international goal on his first start for his country.

Former Cymru head coaches Chris Coleman and the late Gary Speed were also named in the first XI alongside Dean Saunders and Robbie Savage in Tunis, but goals from Sabri Jaballah, Imed Ben Younes and a double from Khaled Badra sealed a shock 4-0 win for the home side on the day.

      166. SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT

Cymru head coach Craig Bellamy named his 26-man squad on Tuesday for the upcoming fixtures against Ghana and Romania next month as the FAW celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Connor Roberts, Chris Mepham and Ben Davies all return from injury although Jordan James, Rubin Colwill, Mark Harris and Liam Cullen have been ruled out of the two international challenge matches.

“They’re two very, very different challenges, but challenges that can really help us improve because I see big improvements in the team,” explained Bellamy. “We have to improve, I have to improve as a coach, and those two factors motivate me a lot.”

The opening match against Ghana takes place on Tuesday 2 June at the Cardiff City Stadium (KO 19:45) before the side head to Bucharest to take on Romania on Saturday 6 June (KO 18:45 UK). Tickets for the match against Ghana are available here.

“We’ve got two reasonably tough games,” Bellamy added. “Ghana obviously have qualified (for the World Cup) with some really good players. They have a new manager and so have Romania.

“So, it will be interesting to see how they go about it, and we have to again be able to adapt. Two difficult oppositions, but two good games to look forward to.” Click here for more on Ghana and Romania.

      167. CYMRU CELEBRATES 150 YEARS

The match against Ghana forms part of the Football Association of Wales’ 150th anniversary. The FAW was founded on 2 February 1876 by a group of businessmen who wished to organise a Cymru representative team capable of competing against Scotland, who were already established on the international stage.

Just one month later, on 25 March 1876, Wales played their first international match against Scotland at Hamilton Crescent in Glasgow. Although the Scots ran out 4-0 winners, the fixture marked a defining moment: Wales had formally entered the international football arena. 168. GHANA – THE BLACK STARS

This will be the first time that Cymru has ever hosted an African nation as the Black Stars continue their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Although Cymru side missed out on qualification with defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina back in March, the match will provide valuable experience for Craig Bellamy’s side ahead of the next UEFA Nations League campaign.

Veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz (below) took charge of Ghana last month and is expected to bring a talented squad to Cardiff for the match, including Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo, Iñaki Williams of Spanish La Liga side Athletic Club and striker Jordan Ayew. Queiroz was formerly assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and was also head coach of Real Madrid.

Ghana qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by finishing top of Group I, winning eight of their ten qualifying fixtures to finish six points ahead of Madagascar. This will be their fifth appearance at the World Cup, with their best performance coming in South Africa in 2010 as they reached the quarter-finals, before suffering a controversial penalty shoot-out defeat against Uruguay in Johannesburg.

The Black Stars are four-time winners of the Africa Cup of Nations, but their last success in the competition was back in 1982. Although they last reached the final in 2015, they were defeated on penalties by Ivory Coast.
