“It does feel a little bit surreal because sometimes I think I still feel like that 14-year old girl who’s just refereed her first game.”
Upon discovering that she had been selected as a match official for this month’s FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic, one of Ceri Williams’ first thoughts was of her younger self.
Growing up in Swansea, there were very few women refereeing role models for Williams but she has now become a trailblazer in her own right – officiating in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the English Football League and the WSL.
If you are interested in following in Williams’ footsteps, fun and interactive refereeing taster sessions are available to attend across Wales hosted by the Adran Leagues Referee Academy for women and girls.
Five free sessions are scheduled over the next month, all lasting one hour:
- Colliers Park, Wrexham – Wednesday 23rd October (18:30)
- Caernarfon Town FC – Tuesday 12th November (18:00)
- Colwyn Bay FC – Wednesday 13th November (18:30)
- Swansea.com Stadium – Wednesday 13th November (19:00)
- Aberystwyth University, Penglais Campus – Thursday 14th November (19:00)
