Cardiff City to meet Athlone Town in UEFA Women’s Champions League

Cardiff City have been drawn against Athlone Town from the Republic of Ireland in the semi-final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League first qualifying round.

The Bluebirds, who won the Genero Adran Premier for the third successive season in 2024/25, were seeded in Tuesday’s draw in Nyon and placed into Group 5.

Athlone Town were the second highest ranked unseeded side, having secured the League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division title for the first time in 2024 while also finishing as runners-up in the FAI Women’s Cup.

The winner of the semi-final will meet newly-crowned Croatian champions ZNK Agram in the final, where the winner will progress to the second qualifying round.

All matches in Group 5 will be played in the Republic of Ireland. The semi-final will be played on Wednesday 30 July, before the final takes place on Saturday 2 August.

If Cardiff City are victorious in the first qualifying round, they will meet Icelandic side Breidablik in the semi-final of the second qualifying round (27 August), before meeting either FC Twente of the Netherlands or Serbian side ZFK Crvena Zvezda in the final or third-place play-off (30 August).
