Genero Adran Leagues Games to Watch: 28 September

The opening weekend in the Genero Adran North and Genero Adran South is upon us, while the Genero Adran Premier continues after an enthralling start to the campaign. Here are the key games to watch on Sunday.

Genero Adran Premier – Cardiff City v Swansea City (Sunday, 2pm)

Reigning champions Cardiff City return to the Cardiff City Stadium to host Swansea City in the pair’s first derby of the season.

The Bluebirds triumphed in both of their fixtures at the CCS last season, with a 2-0 victory over The New Saints in Phase One before a 3-2 win over Briton Ferry Llansawel on the final day of the campaign.

Lily Billingham scored the only goal as Cardiff City earned a 1-0 home win over Swansea City last season

Iain Darbyshire’s side were beaten by TNS on the opening day of the new season, but have responded in emphatic fashion with 5-1 and 5-0 victories over Briton Ferry and Barry Town United respectively and currently sit top of the table.

Swansea are the only team in the top-flight still with a 100% record this season, while they are also yet to concede a goal following a 4-0 win over Barry and a 2-0 victory against Aberystwyth Town.

Both meetings between the two sides last season were tight encounters, as the Swans triumphed 1-0 at the Swansea.com Stadium in October before Cardiff earned revenge by winning by the same scoreline in the capital in February.

Genero Adran North – Bangor v Berriew (Sunday, 2pm)

Newly-promoted Berriew begin their debut Genero Adran North season on the road as they travel to face Bangor on the opening day.

Berriew were promoted to the second tier after winning the NEWFL East title last season, scoring an impressive 60 goals in 12 matches and conceding just nine.

Regina Hanratty’s side will hope to build on a pair of encouraging performances in the Genero Adran Trophy so far this term, as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Connah’s Quay Nomads before Ellie Davies’ stoppage-time equaliser earned a 2-2 draw against Felinheli.

Bangor finished seventh in the Genero Adran North last season, winning just two games, but new manager Richard Parry has been busy bolstering his squad over the summer – with striker Ffion Thomas and Cymru U16 international Holly Owen-Roberts the standout arrivals.

Bangor have begun the new season in the Genero Adran Trophy with a 1-0 win over Llangefni Town before conceding in stoppage time to lose 2-1 against Flint Town United a fortnight ago.

Genero Adran South – Cardiff Met v Cascade (Sunday, 2pm)

Cardiff Met begin life in the Genero Adran South on home turf as the Archers host Cascade at Cyncoed Campus.

Met, six-time champions of the top-flight, were relegated from the Genero Adran Premier last season after winning just one match all year. However, Jon Nash’s side have made a bright start to the new campaign with a pair of 2-0 wins over Llanelli Town and Carmarthen Town in the Genero Adran Trophy.

Cardiff Met have started the new season with two consecutive wins in the Genero Adran Trophy

Cascade have finished in the top three of the Genero Adran South every year since its creation in 2021, while they were still in with a chance of winning the title on the final day of last season before finishing third. Under new boss Wayne Lewis, they have defeated Penybont (2-0) and Taffs Well (3-0) in the Genero Adran Trophy so far this term.

The last meeting between the two sides came in the Genero Adran Trophy Round of 16 last season, when Cascade caused an upset by triumphing 1-0 thanks to Chrystalla Moreton’s first half goal.
