Genero Adran Leagues promotion play-off: All you need to know

The final team in next season’s Genero Adran Premier will be decided on Sunday as Genero Adran South champions Briton Ferry Llansawel face Genero Adran North champions Llandudno in the promotion play-off at Latham Park (KO 16:30).

Here is everything you need to know.

The season so far

Briton Ferry suffered heartbreak in last year’s play-off by narrowly losing 1-0 to Wrexham, but the Reds came flying out of the blocks this season and eventually completed a perfect league campaign. Rhys James’ side won the title with 12 wins from 12 games, scoring 55 goals and conceding just five.

Llandudno were involved in a three-horse race with Felinheli and Connah’s Quay Nomads for the Genero Adran North title, but the Seasiders earned key victories over both of their title rivals earlier in the year which proved vital as they won their second title in three years.

Recent form

Briton Ferry concluded their unbeaten Genero Adran South campaign at the end of March as goals from Megan Kearle and Alison Witts secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Cwmbran Celtic. The Reds have won their last seven matches, scoring an impressive 25 goals during that time.

Llandudno capped off a terrific title-winning Genero Adran North campaign last month with an emphatic 10-0 victory over NFA. The Seasiders continued their rich vein of form in front of goal as they secured a 7-0 victory over Llanystumdwy in the NWCFA Cup.

Both sides are yet to lose in 2024.

Players to watch

Alison Witts – Briton Ferry Llansawel

After making the switch from Pontypridd United last summer, Alison Witts has spearheaded Briton Ferry’s promotion charge and finished the season as the Genero Adran South top scorer with 19 goals to her name.

Witts has scored a minimum of two goals in nine of her appearances this season and should prove a real handful for Llandudno’s defence.

Kelsey Davies – Llandudno

Few players come into this play-off in better form than Kelsey Davies, who scored 11 goals in her final four Genero Adran North matches of the campaign – including three hat-tricks.

The pacy winger then came off the bench to contribute three assists in Llandudno’s NWCFA Cup win over Llanystumdwy, emphasising that she possesses creativity as well as goalscoring ability.

Managers’ thoughts

Rhys James, Briton Ferry Llansawel: “I’m expecting a real close game against Llandudno. There’s a reason why they are champions, but there’s a reason why we are too. I know Llandudno’s squad is mixed with experience and youth and we are aware of where their danger lies. We just need to focus on us, and how we can get the best out of our team. If we can do that, then I’ll be confident in the team to get the job done.

Jordan Hadaway, Llandudno: “It’s a showcase game for us to show people how good we actually are. We’ll give it a right good go and we’re not scared of anybody. We went to Wrexham and lost in the last minute of stoppage time this season; we’ve played Swansea City too. We’ll have a plan for them and hopefully we can get the result that we want. It’s about making and creating memories as a group and finish off what we want to do.”
