Genero Adran North round-up | Llandudno and Llanfair begin season with big wins

Reigning Genero Adran North champions Llandudno began their title defence in style with a 6-0 win away at Rhyl 1879 on Sunday.

An own goal from Rosie O’Brien put the Seasiders ahead on 16 minutes, before a flurry of four goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Kelsey Davies scored twice, bookending strikes from Maddie Williams and Ella Jones.

The only goal of the second half came in the 71st minute when Davies turn provider for Williams, who completed a brace of her own.

Llanfair United were also impressive opening day victors as Gwynfor Edwards’ side secured a 6-1 win at home to NFA.

Lucie Gwilt scored the only goal in a tightly contested first half, but the floodgates opened after the break as Emma Williams, Becky Jones and Harriet Davies all found the net as Llanfair opened up a four-goal advantage.

NFA got on the scoresheet through substitute Sophia Culverhouse in the 89th minute, but Jones and captain Mary Bailey both netted in stoppage time to complete Llanfair’s biggest win in the Genero Adran North since November 2021.

Newly-promoted Flint Town United earned a hard-fought point on their Genero Adran North debut in a 0-0 stalemate away to Bangor.

Both sides had their fair share of chances despite playing in tough weather conditions, but nobody was able to find the back of the net, seeing the two teams share the points.

The match between Felinheli and Connah’s Quay Nomads was postponed due a waterlogged pitch. A rearranged date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
