Genero Adran Premier round-up | Cardiff City begin title defence with win over Wrexham

Reigning Genero Adran Premier champions Cardiff City made the perfect start to the new campaign with a 2-0 victory away to Wrexham on Sunday.

The scoreline remained level at the break after a tightly contested first half, but the Bluebirds found the breakthrough 10 minutes into the second period thanks a moment of brilliance from Ffion Price.

Standing over a free-kick on the edge of the area, the full-back superbly picked out the top corner to break the deadlock.

The visitors wrapped up victory eight minutes from time when Shannon Evans’ long ball found Eliza Collie, who burst through two Wrexham defenders before producing a composed finish past Dragons debut goalkeeper Lizzie Craven.

Newly-promoted Briton Ferry Llansawel marked their return to the top-flight with an emphatic 4-0 win away to Aberystwyth Town.

After goalless first hour at Park Avenue, Ferry found the breakthrough in the 64th minute when summer signing Maia Owen bagged a debut goal by scoring on the rebound after Alison Witts’ header hit the crossbar.

That opened the floodgates for the Reds as Witts found the net herself with a curling free-kick in the 74thminute, while substitute Jess Denscombe cut inside from the left and added a third with three minutes of the 90 remaining.

Victory was wrapped up in stoppage time when Fleur Jenkins produced a clever chip over Aber goalkeeper Chelsea Herbert.

The New Saints were the biggest winners on the opening day as they triumphed 5-0 away to Barry Town United in Shauna Duffy’s first game in charge.

Molly Havard bagged a debut goal for the Saints with a thunderous strike from 20 yards to open the scoring in the 36th minute, while Grace Dunkerley doubled the lead early in the second half as she tapped home from close after Chantelle Teare’s initial shot was saved.

Teare was not to be denied 10 minutes later as she rounded Barry goalkeeper Molly Arnesen and calmly slotted home, before the victory was sealed with two goals in the final 10 minutes.

Captain Lia Lewis scored from the penalty spot after Teare was fouled in the box, while 17-year-old Lexi Jones netted a debut goal from the edge of the area.

Jamie Sherwood also made a winning start to his new role as his Swansea City side came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus.

Met captain Chelsea Cochrane hit a stunning strike from range which sailed over Claire Skinner to give the Archers the lead after just five minutes, but Swans debutant Danielle Broadhurst levelled the contest six minutes later when she poked home from close range after Robyn Pinder’s initial effort was parried.

The comeback was complete on the stroke of half-time when Stacey John-Davis sent a looping shot from distance over Charlotte Smith and the Swans remained tight at the back in the second half to clinch the three points.
