Genero Adran Premier round-up | Collie bags hat-trick as Cardiff City thrash Wrexham

Pontypridd United’s relegation from the Genero Adran Premier was confirmed on Sunday afternoon as the Dragons drew 2-2 with Cardiff Met at USW Sports Park.

Ponty had to beat the Archers to keep their survival hopes alive, but despite a spirited performance they could not find a winning goal.

The hosts got off to the worst possible start as Nieve Jenkins’ corner sailed over goalkeeper Klaudia Wojtyczka in the 12th minute.

Ponty equalised through Shannon Hindmarsh just after the half hour mark, but they trailed again midway through the second period as Met forward Esme Kilburn-Thompson found the net again after her hat-trick against The New Saints the previous weekend.

A red card for Archers defender Tiggy Webb gave Ponty renewed hope and they levelled again through Lucy Atwood in the 84th minute, but there was to be no late winner.

After Swansea City’s fixture against Aberystwyth Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Cardiff City opened up an eight-point gap at the top of the table with an emphatic 6-1 win over Wrexham at The Rock.

Both sides found the net inside the first 15 minutes as Rosie Hughes’ penalty cancelled out Eliza Collie’s opener, but the Bluebirds quickly restored their lead as Rhianne Oakley headed home from Ffion Price’s cross.

Molly Kehoe added a third shortly after half-time before Oakley got her second of the afternoon, while Collie scored twice in the final 10 minutes to complete her fourth hat-trick of the campaign.

Barry Town United moved to the top of the Plate Conference with a 3-0 victory over The New Saints, inspired by Angharad Beman’s first half double.

Beman’s close range header from Chloe Tiley’s corner opened the scoring in the 17th minute.  And Barry doubled their lead shortly after through India Shanahan, who dispossessed Grace Dunkerley and sent a composed finish beyond Ellie Suckley.

Things got even better for the hosts on the stroke of half-time as Tiley and Beman combined again to add a third. Tiley’s corner fell kindly to Beman, who tucked away another effort.

A goalless second half meant Barry secured all three points to leapfrog the Saints, who are still without a league win in 2024.
