The Genero Adran Trophy group stage kicked off on Sunday, with no shortage of goals across eight matches.
Group 1
Flint Town United earned three points in Group 1 after an entertaining 5-3 win over Llanfair United at the Essity Stadium.
Ruby Hastings set up new Flint signings Laura Williams and Poppy Smith as the hosts opened up a quick two-goal lead before Hastings herself got on the scoresheet on 28 minutes.
Llanfair forward Harriet Davies had a glorious chance to pull a goal back for the visitors from the penalty spot, but Rebecca Bott guessed correctly to make the save. Llanfair’s frustration grew even more when Hastings bagged her brace two minutes after Davies’ miss.
16-year-old Erin Cornes scored her first senior goal to give Llanfair a glimmer of hope at the end of the first half before The New Saints loanee Grace Thomas reduced the deficit to two goals.
Williams then bagged her brace with seven minutes of normal time remaining to ultimately put the game to bed. Thomas set up Sophie Cook as Llanfair pulled another goal back, but the damage was already done as Flint scored five goals in a competitive fixture for the first time since November 2024.
Bangor 1876 also made a winning start to Group 1 as Mia Roberts’ stoppage-time strike secured a 2-1 victory over Felinheli at Cae Seilo.
Genero Adran Trophy
Bangor broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark as Menna Evans met Ellie Jones’ cross and fired into the top corner.
Catrin Evans immediately equalised for Felinheli, but Bangor clinched all three points in dramatic circumstances late on as Roberts fired past Rubie Davies for her first competitive goal in nearly two years. Bangor have now ended a run of nine consecutive games against Felinheli without a win.
Group 2
Reigning Genero Adran North champions Connah’s Quay Nomads began their group stage with a convincing 5-1 win away to Wrexham Foresters at Stansty Park.
Connah’s Quay made a fast start and took the lead in the opening seconds as Phoebe Ellis lobbed Chloe Ankers from out wide before Maizie Johnson scored the Foresters’ first goal since promotion to the second tier in style as she picked out the top corner to level the scoreline on 14 minutes.
The contest remained all square for almost an hour, but the Nomads restored their advantage thanks to a moment of brilliance from Hannah Slack, who sent a stunning strike over Ankers from distance. Former Cymru U15 international Non Williams marked her Connah’s Quay debut with a goal as she applied a clinical finish into the bottom corner before Anna Marsh dispossessed former Nomads captain Kirstie Kural and fired home from the edge of the area to establish a three-goal lead.
Williams bagged a brace late in the day by heading home from Seren Cashen’s corner to round off a five-star performance as new manager Andy Griffiths secured victory in his first game in charge of the club.
Berriew also claimed a statement victory in Group 2 as they beat Llandudno 4-0 at the Go Goodwins Stadium.
Berriew opened the scoring on the stroke of half time through experienced forward Hannah Richards before Dottie Evans, who scored nine goals in the Genero Adran North for the mid-Wales outfit last season, doubled the away side’s lead five minutes after the restart.
Evans bagged herself a brace while also assisting teenage substitute Teleri Roberts late on to give Berriew their biggest win since being promoted to the second tier last season.
Group 3
Jodie Challenger’s late strike proved decisive as Cwmbran Celtic earned a 1-0 win over Cascade at the Motazone Arena in Group 3.
It seemed both sides would be heading for a goalless draw as the match entered the closing stages, but Challenger, who is one of Celtic’s longest-serving players, ensured that was not the case as her goal in the 87th minute gave Phil Schonbeck victory in his first game as new Celtic manager.
Nothing could separate Penybont and Pure Swansea in a 1-1 draw at the DragonBet Stadium in Group 3’s other fixture.
Penybont took the lead in style as Maisy Fahey-Pennell scored a stunning free-kick for his first goal in nearly a year. However, the Swans were immediately level in first half stoppage time thanks to Ffion Varney’s debut goal. A goalless second half meant both sides took home a point apiece.
Group 4
Carmarthen Town sit top of Group 4 after the first round of group stage matches as they produced a first half blitz to triumph 5-2 away to Cambrian United at the M&P Group 3G in the Genero Adran Trophy.
Carmarthen wasted no time and opened up a two-goal lead after just 11 minutes played. Summer signing Kalena Walters-Wright got things rolling for the Old Gold as she found the net from Ophelia Jenkins’ cross before Jasmine Guymer tapped home from Libby Hayhurst’s square ball to make it 2-0.
Hayhurst bagged her first senior goal for Carmarthen after turning the ball home from Walters-Wright’s free-kick before Naomi Coulson added a fourth goal on the stroke of half time with a fierce strike.
Cambrian substitutes Sophie Trigg and Tayla Gould come off the bench to score and give the hosts a lifeline with 15 minutes remaining, but Carmarthen soon put the result beyond doubt as Walters-Wright slotted in from Grace McDonald’s cross to bag a brace on her debut for the club.
Pontypridd United also began Group 4 with victory as Robyn Lloyd’s first half double secured a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Llanrumney United as USW Sports Park.
Lloyd gave Pontypridd the dream start by finding the net after just three minutes played for her first ever senior goal. Lloyd doubled her and Ponty’s tally in the 29th minute to put the Dragons in control. The hosts saw out the remaining hour of the contest to pick up all three points.
