Tiggy Webb ‘loving’ life as she balances football and her studies at Cardiff Met

It is tough enough choosing the right university for you at the best of times – let alone if you’re also trying to think about playing elite football as well.

But Tiggy Webb always knew she wanted to head to Cardiff Met to study and star in the Genero Adran Premier as well as the BUCS competitions for college and university teams.

“I chose Cardiff Met purely because of the football history,” she says. “What they’ve achieved, I wanted to be a part of that. Cardiff Met’s facilities are fantastic and I had a couple of coaches who said it would be a really good move.

“I wanted to go to uni and venture out and go to a city that was not too big or too small, and Cardiff ticked all the boxes. I love it in Wales.”

And she’s grateful to the coaching team who help the players manage their training load.

“We have a fantastic management team and they are watching all of us and gauging if we’re doing OK,” she says. “If we want to play cup games, we can, but we need to manage ourselves correctly.”

Originally from Hastings, on the south coast of England, Webb is now in her final year of studying sport, PE and health, with the intention of becoming a PE teacher, which has been her lifelong ambition. She began playing football as a five-year-old, featuring in mixed sides until she was 15, when she joined a girls’ team in a neighbouring town, and was then picked up by Championship side Lewes.

Now she gets the best of both worlds with Cardiff Met – the Wednesday competitions against other students, and the Sunday matches against the best in the country.

“On a Wednesday, it’s more relaxed, it’s more social,” she says. “On a Sunday we take it very seriously!”
