The Bank Holiday weekend is kicking off in style with almost every fixture across the Novira Cymru Leagues taking place under the Friday night lights, with plenty at stake across both tiers. Here are the key games to watch.
Novira Cymru Premier – Trefelin vs Ammanford (Friday, 7:45pm)
Familiar foes Trefelin and Ammanford meet at Ynys Park on Friday, with both sides searching for their first Novira Cymru Premier win of the season.
Trefelin won the Novira Cymru South title in convincing fashion last season, but they have found life in the top-flight difficult since their promotion. Andy Hill’s side have lost all four of their opening matches and are one of two teams yet to score a single league goal, along with Haverfordwest County. Tref were beaten 2-0 at home against Caernarfon Town last Friday and first-choice captain Jordan Davies will be suspended for the next three games following his straight red card in stoppage time against the Cofis.
Ammanford claimed their first ever point in the Novira Cymru Premier at the start of August following their impressive comeback to draw 2-2 with Colwyn Bay, inspired by star forward Jonathan Evans. However, Wyn Thomas’ side are now hoping to bounce back from a pair of 2-0 losses to Airbus UK Broughton and Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Both teams met on three occasions across league and cup competition last season. Ammanford were narrow 1-0 victors in a Welsh Blood Service League Cup first round tie, but Trefelin gained revenge with 2-0 and 4-0 wins in the Novira Cymru South – results that proved crucial to their league title success.

Novira Cymru Premier – Barry Town United vs Airbus UK Broughton (Friday, 7:45pm)
Early Novira Cymru Premier leaders Barry Town United are looking for their fifth straight victory when they host Airbus UK Broughton at Jenner Park.
Barry became the only team in the top-flight to maintain a perfect record after they came from behind to beat Holywell Town 3-1 last Friday. New signings Owen Brain and Elliott Dugan have filled the attacking void well since Ollie Hulbert and Ieuan Owen departed this summer as they have a combined five goals between them across Barry’s last three wins.
Steve Jenkins’ side have also developed a habit of scoring late after finding the net from the 80th minute onwards in all four matches played, including decisive winners in their opening three. Barry will be confident of a fifth straight win this Friday – a streak they have not achieved in the Novira Cymru Premier for almost six years.
Airbus have experienced a solid start in their return to the top-flight so far by claiming six points from their first four games. Mark Allen’s side have already caused an upset when travelling to South Wales this season after their statement 1-0 win away to Haverfordwest County on the opening weekend. The Wingmakers secured their second win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Ammanford a fortnight ago, but rued their missed chances in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colwyn Bay last Friday.
Barry and Airbus last met in the 2019/20 Novira Cymru Premier, where legendary forward Kayne McLaggon scored in both 1-0 and 2-0 wins to secure a league double for Barry.

Novira Cymru North – Bangor City 1876 vs Brickfield Rangers (Friday, 7:45pm)
Two early standout performers in the Novira Cymru North face off as Bangor 1876 host current leaders Brickfield Rangers at the Bangor City Stadium.
Newly-promoted Bangor have now hit their full stride and have bounced back to form in style with three straight wins over Denbigh Town (2-1), Llanuwchllyn (5-0) and Holyhead Hotspur (3-2). Star striker Declan McManus has already hit the ground running for the new season with five league goals to his name, including a brace against Holyhead last weekend. Bangor’s opening day defeat to Bala Town, which attracted over 1,300 fans, was the club’s first loss on home turf since April 2025.
Brickfield have been the early surprise package in the Novira Cymru North by winning all four of their matches. Gary Wilson’s side maintained their perfect record with a 2-0 win over Penrhyncoch last weekend thanks to a brace from Andy Vale, who has a staggering seven goals this season already. Brickfield will need to produce another high-quality display if they are to continue their winning run in arguably their toughest test of the campaign so far and keep three consecutive clean sheets for the first time since February 2024.
This will be the first meeting between Bangor and Brickfield since the 2022/23 Ardal North West campaign. Bangor completed a comfortable league double by earning 6-0 and 3-0 wins, with striker Corrig McGonigle, who still serves for the club, scoring five goals across those two matches.
Novira Cymru South – Pure Swansea vs Pontypridd United (Friday, 7:30pm)
The only two teams remaining with perfect records in the Novira Cymru South go head-to-head as Pure Swansea face Pontypridd United at the Swansea Bay Sports Park.
Pure Swansea have immediately made their presence known in the second tier since their promotion by winning all four games in emphatic style. Jack Midwinter’s side built on their 3-0 wins over Llantwit Major, Baglan Dragons and Llanelli Town with a statement 5-1 victory away to Caerau Ely. Casey Coughlin and Bradley Gibbings have formed a dangerous strike partnership already with 10 combined goal contributions.
Pontypridd were pipped to be amongst the race for promotion prior to the start of the season and they have certainly lived up to that expectation so far. The Dragons continued their winning start with a narrow 2-1 win over Trethomas Bluebirds last Friday thanks to goals from Liam Angel and Ethan Edwards, who has scored in each of the four opening games.
Both sides last met in the 2021/22 Novira Cymru South season as Pontypridd prevailed 4-3 in a thrilling encounter before the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture.
Novira Cymru South – Baglan Dragons vs Caerau Ely (Friday, 7:30pm)
Caerau Ely begin life in the Novira Cymru South under new manager Ben Stait with a trip to face in-form Baglan Dragons at Evans Bevans Playing Fields.
Stait, who has previously managed Llantwit Major in the division, was appointed Caerau boss on Tuesday following the departure of Dean Wheeler, whose four-year spell came to an end following a 5-1 loss to Pure Swansea last Friday. The Young Guns were title favourites at the beginning of the season, but have just four points in total so far. Despite their early disappointments, Liam Bishop has been a bright spark as he has scored in all four opening games and will hope to spearhead Caerau towards a resurgence in their new era under Stait.
Baglan currently sit fifth in the table after picking up an impressive seven points from their first four matches. Teenager Alex Garland scored his first ever senior goal for the club to give the Dragons a 1-0 win over Newport City last weekend – their third straight clean sheet on the road. Carl Clement’s side are also now eyeing up three consecutive league wins for the first time since October 2024.
Caerau won both meetings against Baglan last season with a narrow 2-1 victory in September before a comfortable 5-0 win in March. Four red cards have been shown in the last three Novira Cymru South matches between the two sides.
