JD Cymru North round-up | Holywell Town end Airbus’ winning streak

JD Cymru North leaders Airbus UK Broughton saw their 13-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 away at reigning champions Holywell Town.

The Wingmakers took the lead nine minutes before half-time as teenager Kaiden Cooke bagged his third goal in four games, but Holywell were level just four minutes into the second period as Danny Sullivan played a through ball into the path of Jamie Breese who fired home.

The hosts completed the turnaround in the 72nd minute when Brady McGilloway’s cross from the right was headed in by Sullivan to secure a fifth consecutive home win for Johnny Haseldin’s side.

Airbus’ defeat means that second-place Colwyn Bay are now just one point behind the Wingmakers after Jamie Cumming’s hat-trick inspired a 5-1 away win over Flint Mountain on Friday night.

It was a frantic start at the Essity Stadium as Mike Hayes put Mountain ahead with just 20 seconds on the clock, only for Cumming to head home an equaliser from Sam Hart’s corner a minute later.

Cumming found the target again with a low shot into the bottom corner to put Bay ahead in first half stoppage time, before he completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute after Ethan Roberts was fouled in the box.

Substitutes Lloyd Marsh-Hughes and Josh Carey both found the net in the final five minutes of the contest to wrap up a 16th league win in a row for the Seagulls.

Prestatyn Town earned their first league victory since September – and first clean sheet of the season – as they triumphed 1-0 over Caersws at Bastion Gardens.

The Seasiders went into the game on a 12-match losing streak, but took the lead in the 84th minute when Tyler Joyce picked up the ball on the edge of the box and produced a superb finish into the bottom corner.

It looked like there would be late heartbreak for the hosts when Caersws won a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time, but goalkeeper Robbie Williams got down low to his left to deny Sam Phillips from the spot and spark wild scenes of celebration.

Gareth Thomas’ side are now off the bottom of the table, but are still 12 points adrift of safety with 11 games left to play.

In-form Llandudno earned a third consecutive league victory as Mark Cadwallader scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 home win over Ruthin Town on Friday night.

Two headers from Cadwallader inside the first 20 minutes of the match instantly put the Seasiders in control, before Harvey Bennett made it 3-0 in first half stoppage time.

Sam Jones gave Ruthin a glimmer of hope just before the hour mark, but Cadwallader ultimately put the game to bed as he completed his treble from the penalty spot in the 79th minute.

Llandudno debutant Ben Maher added a fifth goal with three minutes left on the clock, before Harry Martin netted a consolation for Ruthin in stoppage time.

Lucas Gregson and Owen Cordiner both scored twice as Mold Alexandra claimed a comfortable 4-1 home win over Llay Miners Welfare on Saturday.

Gregson, in only his second game on loan from Connah’s Quay Nomads, broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time by slotting home the rebound from an initially blocked shot.

Mold scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half as Cordiner fired past Mike Platt before Gregson tapped in from close after Matty Lewis’ throw-in fell into his path. It was 4-0 just after the hour mark when Cordiner headed home from Craig Rogers’ cross.

Bisensio Kamilo’s header got Llay on the scoresheet in the final five minutes, but it was only a consolation as Jordan Scott’s side slipped to the bottom of the table.

Guilsfield leapfrogged Bangor 1876 into the top half of the table with a 2-1 home win over Michael Johnston’s side on Saturday.

The Guils started strongly as Jamie Hyne found the breakthrough inside just six minutes for his sixth goal in his last four league matches at Clos Mytton.

Hyne’s strike partner Iwan Matthews doubled the advantage shortly after the hour mark, which proved decisive as Tom Mahoney pulled a goal back for Bangor late on.

Buckley Town won for the first time in four games as they ran out 3-1 victors away to Gresford Athletic on Saturday.

Sam McCormick scored his first league goal of the season in style as he beautifully curled home a free-kick to open the scoring for the Bucks in the 27th minute and Max Moore doubled the lead just two minutes later as he tapped in Adam Boydell’s cross.

Liam Driscoll got in on the act three minutes into the second half with a header beyond Lewis Dutton to make it 3-0, but the Bucks could not keep a clean sheet as Haci Ozlu scored a consolation for Gresford with four minutes left on the clock.

An emphatic second half performance from Denbigh Town earned a 3-0 win over Penrhyncoch at Central Park on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Nathan Brown marked his 100th appearance for Denbigh with a close-range opener in the 69th minute before Kyle Cooper sent a superb free-kick from distance beyond Leigh Jenkins via the post.

Substitute Danny Clarke, who had only been on the pitch for 13 minutes, wrapped up a convincing display from Dewi Llion’s side in stoppage time.
