JD Cymru South round-up | Llanelli Town go top as Trethomas Bluebirds drop points

Trethomas Bluebirds dropped points in the JD Cymru South for the first time since November as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Ammanford on Friday night.

Ammanford opened the scoring in the ninth minute of first half stoppage time as Adam John raced onto Tristan Jenkins’ defence-splitting pass and slotted into the bottom corner for his fourth goal of the season.

The Bluebirds posed an improved attacking threat in the second half and they eventually equalised in the 76thminute when Ethan Edwards fired home from Jack Jones’ low ball. Substitute Leon Thomas thought he had snatched a late victory for Mark Dunford’s side when he found the net late on, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

The Bluebirds’ draw meant that Llanelli Town moved top of the table on goal difference thanks to a 2-1 win away at Newport City on Friday night.

January signing Liam Eason scored his first goal for the Reds from close range to open the scoring just before half-time, before he doubled his tally five minutes after the break to put his side firmly in control.

Newport City won a penalty in the 78th minute when Kofi Rowe was fouled in the box by Scott Tancock, but Josh Graham dragged his effort wide from the spot.

Graham did find the scoresheet 11 minutes later as he headed home from close range, but it came too late to save the Steelmen from falling to defeat. It was a fifth consecutive win for Llanelli, who host Trethomas Bluebirds this Friday in a huge top of the table clash.

Baglan Dragons were the weekend’s standout performers as they triumphed 6-1 at home against Goytre United.

Nathan Logan’s cross-turned-shot sailed over Tye Williams to get the Dragons off the mark on 20 minutes, before Artiom Legavec doubled the lead in the 44th minute with a neat finish which found the net via the post.

Adam Robbins grabbed a lifeline for Goytre in first half stoppage time, but Jack Fleming’s thunderous effort from distance just two minutes into the second period saw the Dragons restore their two-goal cushion.

Fleming then turned provider for Kieran Parsons, who bundled home in the midst of a goalmouth scramble, before Tom Randall’s deflected effort made it five.

Randall’s fellow substitute Craig Wilcox rounded off a convincing performance from the home side as he converted the rebound from Dylan Thomas’ blocked shot with 15 minutes remaining.

Defeat for Goytre meant that Penrhiwceiber Rangers climbed out of the relegation zone by earning a point in a 1-1 draw away at Cwmbran Celtic on Saturday.

Rangers got off to the perfect start as Brandon Davies netted after just seven minutes, but Mario van Dieren levelled the contest three minutes before half-time.

Morgan Andrews was sent off for Rangers early in the second half, but the visitors had the best chance to win the game when they were awarded a penalty in the 76th minute, only for Lewis Watkins to deny Warren Jones from the spot. Dean Brown’s side would finish the game with nine men as Owen Orford also saw red following his second bookable offence in stoppage time.

Cambrian United climbed to sixth in the table with a 4-2 victory away at struggling Taffs Well, as Jack Fox scored a hat-trick against his former club.

Fox put the Cam Army in front with 23 minutes on the clock as he cut inside onto his left foot and sent a low drive beyond Iwan Hooper at the near post. He grabbed his second goal just eight minutes later with a dipping effort from the edge of the area, before Calum Bateman beat Hooper to Tim Parker’s long ball upfield and finished calmly into the bottom corner.

The visitors got in behind the Wellmen defence again just after the hour mark as goalkeeper Morgan Davies’ long ball was not dealt with, allowing Fox to sweep the ball home for his hat-trick.

Josh Hinwood scored two well-taken headers within the space of five minutes to spark hopes of a late comeback for the Wellmen, but it is now six consecutive defeats for Josh Anderson’s side who remain bottom of the table and five points adrift of safety.

Mark Aizlewood announced that he would be leaving Carmarthen Town at the end of the season on Friday, before his side earned a 2-0 win over Caerau Ely the following day.

Captain Noah Daley put the Old Gold ahead on the stroke of half-time, before January signing Morgan Weaver opened his account for the club in the 65th minute.

Nothing could separate Llantwit Major and Trefelin in a goalless draw at the Windmill Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Goalkeepers Ryley Green and Aaron Jones both produced some vital saves for their sides in as Trefelin extended their unbeaten run to five matches, while Major dropped down to ninth-place.
