Archie Jones’ four-goal haul inspired Rhyl 1879 to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Holyhead Hotspur at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
The hosts started the contest in lightning fashion as Jones bagged a hat-trick inside the opening 16 minutes. His first goal arrived in the first 60 seconds, tapping in Morgan Murray’s pass, before he finished coolly after receiving Tom Kemp’s threaded pass and headed in a cross from Murray to complete his treble.
It meant that Rhyl were in firm control at the break, but Holyhead remarkably pulled two goals back in the opening three minutes of the second half as Connor Owen and Cory Williams found the net. The visitors were level just after the hour mark as Jamie Jones smashed the ball into the top corner.
However, the comeback would prove to be in vain as Jones grabbed his fourth goal of the afternoon to secure victory in the 76th minute, tucking away the rebound after Leo Latter’s struck the crossbar.
