Caerau Ely moved into the JD Cymru South promotion places with a crucial 3-1 victory over Ammanford at Cyncoed Stadium on Saturday.
The Young Guns took the lead in the 26th minute as Hywel Davies blocked Seth Woodhouse’s clearance, received the ball back from Tim Parker and curled beautifully into the bottom corner from just outside the area.
Ammanford levelled the scoreline six minutes before half-time as Dan John’s low effort crept past Harry Irving and into the net via the post, but Caerau were back in front five minutes after the restart as Parker met George Sheppard’s corner and headed home from close range.
That same pair combined again in the 71st minute to open up a two-goal advantage as Parker glanced his header into the bottom corner from Sheppard’s clipped ball into the area. Dean Wheeler’s side have now leapfrogged Ammanford and into the top three on goal difference.

Fifth-place Aberystwyth Town are just one point adrift of the promotion places following their 1-0 victory away to Baglan Dragons on Saturday.
The decisive moment arrived with 76 minutes on the clock as Piers Juliff’s corner found Rackeem Reid, who laid the ball off on the edge of the area for Richie Ricketts to fire into the bottom corner. Craig Williams’ side saw out the closing stages to secure their third consecutive league win.
Llandudno returned to the top of the JD Cymru North table with a 2-0 victory over Brickfield Rangers at the Go Goodwins Stadium on Friday night.
Neither side created any major opportunities in a goalless first half, but Llandudno found the breakthrough five minutes after the break as Tom Stephens retrieved a loose ball inside the area and netted his first goal since September.
Ben Maher sealed all three points for the Seasiders late on as his corner flew directly beyond Robbie Williams. Jordan Hadaway’s side are now two points clear of second-place Airbus UK Broughton with a game in hand.

Mold Alexandra finally earned their first home win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Denbigh Town at Alyn Park on Saturday.
Denbigh forward Nathan Brown saw his effort from close range rattle the crossbar after just three minutes, but it was the hosts who took the lead four minutes later as Oli Farebrother’s punched clearance fell kindly to Mold captain Henry Nash, who fired home through a number of bodies for his first goal of the season.
The Alex doubled their advantage in first half stoppage-time as Colwyn Bay loanee Max McGoona, making his debut for the club, brought down Owen Cordiner’s long ball and held off Dan Davies before finishing beyond Farebrother.
Brown fired into the top corner to pull a goal back for Denbigh on 64 minutes, but Mold were able to see out the remainder of the match to end their eight-match winless run and move six points clear of the relegation zone.
