JD Cymru Premier round-up: Big away win sees Barry Town United climb into the top six

Penybont staged a late comeback to earn a 4-3 victory away at Flint Town United in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday.

The two sides went into the break level as Clayton Green’s instinctive volley into the top corner cancelled out Jack Thorn’s deflected header.

Noah Daley fired Bont ahead just five minutes into the second half with a low effort into the bottom corner, but Ben Wynne’s powerful first time strike and Mikey Burke’s tap in from Ben Hughes’ square ball saw Flint complete a quickfire turnaround to lead 3-2 after 67 minutes.

That was how it stayed until the final 10 minutes when Penybont flipped the game on its head again. James Crole neatly rounded Jack Flint and rolled into the net to make it all square, before Daley tapped home on the line after Nathan Wood’s effort was blocked. Victory ensured that Rhys Grifiths’ side remained second in the table.

Barry Town United climbed back into the top half as they triumphed 4-1 away at Colwyn Bay in Saturday’s late kick-off.

Bay took the lead after just 13 minutes as Aron Williams’ long throw sailed all the way through to Nathan Peate to tap in, but Barry were gifted an equaliser just seven minutes later as Ieuan Owen intercepted Lewis Sirrell’s tame pass and curled home into the bottom corner with Alex Brown off his line.

Owen completed a quickfire double in the 25th minute as he fired in the rebound from Mikey George’s saved effort, while Bay’s first half got worse soon after when Sirrell was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Owen.

Ollie Hulbert added a third goal for Barry on 67 minutes when he finished coolly in the box after the hosts failed to deal with Robbie Willmott’s square ball, before Willmott sealed victory 10 minutes later with a deflected strike from the edge of the area. The result was Barry’s biggest top-flight away win since August 2021.

League leaders The New Saints survived a late scare to triumph 3-2 away at Haverfordwest County on Saturday and maintain their nine-point lead at the top of the table.

The Saints found the breakthrough in the 27th minute as Dan Williams retrieved the loose ball from Ryan Brobbel’s corner and slotted home at the near post, before Jordan Williams doubled the lead just three minutes later with a composed finish. The forward completed a brace for himself early in the second half with a close range header from Ben Clark’s cross.

However, Corey Shephard pulled a goal back for Haverfordwest just before the hour mark after playing a neat one-two with Owain Jones, while Ben Ahmun squeezed a 90th-minute effort underneath Nathan Shepperd to set up a tense finish at Ogi Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds almost found a stoppage time equaliser only for Shepperd to deny Dylan Rees, as TNS made it 10 consecutive league wins.

Bradley was agonisingly denied a hat-trick as his thunderous effort from just inside the area rattled the crossbar, but Caernarfon did find a fourth goal in stoppage time when Mooney thumped home a header from Matty Jones’ corner.
