JD Cymru South round-up: Cambrian United go top after comeback win

Cambrian United returned to the top of the JD Cymru South as Liam Eason’s brace inspired a 4-2 comeback victory away at nine-man Pontypridd United on Friday.

Ponty were two goals to the good after the first half hour played thanks to a brace from Ethan Edwards, but Cambrian hit back as Calum Bateman halved the deficit before captain Kyle Jones headed home from Eason’s cross to level the scoreline at half time.

The visitors were then awarded a penalty on 58 minutes after Jack Jones’ challenge inside the area resulted in a straight red card for the Ponty defender, with Eason stepping up to score from the spot. Ponty won a penalty of their own five minutes later but captain Jamie Veale smashed his spot-kick against the crossbar.

The Dragons’ woes increased late on as Harvey Selway was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 90thminute, before Cambrian netted a fourth goal in stoppage time as Jack Fox played through Eason to fire home is 11th in the league this season.

Liam Williams’ side are now two points clear at the top of the table, after the clash between second-place Caerau Ely and third-place Trefelin was postponed on Friday.

Liam Eason scored twice in Cambrian United’s win to take his tally to 11 league goals this season

Treowen Stars staged a stunning comeback to triumph 4-3 away at Baglan Dragons on Friday night – their first league win in over two months.

An own goal from Stars goalkeeper Cael Jones have the Dragons the lead after just seven minutes, but Lewis Green levelled the contest in the 26th minute with his fifth goal in his last four games in all competitions.

Dragons frontman Nathan Logan also continued his fine recent form by scoring either side of half-time to put his side 3-1 up and seemingly in control of the contest.

However, Chris Hartland pulled a goal back on 69 minutes to give the Stars a lifeline, before Corey Jenkins equalised in the 90th minute. A sensational turnaround was complete three minutes later when 17-year-old substitute Dylan John struck the winner. Baglan’s woes were compounded deeper into stoppage time as winger Jack Fleming was shown a straight red card.

There was also late drama at the Rec as Ammanford found a stoppage time winner to triumph 2-1 over bottom-of-the-table Cwmbran Celtic on Friday.

Cole Doolan’s clinical finish into the far corner gave Celtic the lead just before the hour mark, but Ammanford were level with 10 minutes left on the clock as defender Euros Griffiths headed home from Owain Davies’ free-kick.

It would have been only a second point on the road this season for Celtic, but they suffered heartbreak in the 96th minute when Ammanford substitute Macsen Llewelyn tapped home from close range after Iwan Hooper could only parry Griffiths’ header.

Cardiff Draconians extended their unbeaten run to eight league matches with a 3-0 victory at home against Trethomas Bluebirds on Saturday.

Dan Bowen’s fifth league goal of the season saw the Dracs take a narrow lead into half-time before Sam Cawley and substitute Dylan Amin both found the net in the final 10 minutes to secure Nana Baah’s side’s biggest win since promotion to the JD Cymru South.
