Llanidloes Town to host 24-hour charity football match

It will be football around the clock at Llanidloes Town in May – as current first-teamers, former stars, and juniors come together for a 24-hour match.

Dozens of players will be taking part in order to keep the game going for the full day – and those who can’t pull their boots on will be on the sidelines helping with the organisation and keeping score.

It’s the brainchild of the club’s ex-captain Mathew Savage, who also revived their junior set-up. And it’s all to raise money – partly for the junior teams alongside the Stroke Association and local food banks.

“Recently one of our committee members and ex-manager suffered a stroke so the charity is close to our hearts, and the juniors wanted to donate to local foodbanks to help more people in the wider community,” explains club secretary Peter Jones.

The money is raised through sponsorship – with plenty of opportunities for local businesses to get involved as well as the more standard sponsorship forms that participants will ask friends and family to donate to in the run-up. There will also be raffles and donation buckets during the event as well as food and refreshments for spectators.

“We did this event in 2015 also and it’s taken until now for those involved to recover and be willing to go again!” jokes Peter.

It all kicks off at KVM Park at 5pm on Friday 24th May – running through to the final whistle at 5pm on Saturday 25th May.
