      77. OPPOSITION VIEWS

Speaking ahead of the game, Spain head coach, Paul Gallardo said: “Our group, with Wales, Denmark, and Germany, reflects the excellent work these countries are doing. Denmark and Germany, along with Spain, are the only teams returning to the finals from last year, which speaks volumes. We want to have a great European Championship and qualify for the World Cup.”

“They’re the hosts and they have a pretty good generation [of players]. It will be the opening match, in their stadium, with fans, so it will be very difficult. We’ll have to be at our best.”

      78. GUNTER EXCITED AHEAD OF OPENING GAME

“The game against Spain to begin with shows why we all wanted to host the tournament,” he said during his pre-match press conference. “A country with great history at youth team level and it’s an opportunity and challenge everybody is excited for. I’m really looking forward to the boys showing how good they are in the opening game.

“Hosting a EURO finals is an amazing opportunity for our young players to show the very best of Welsh football on the biggest stage and playing at home in front of our supporters is something they will never forget. Everybody at the FAW [Football Association of Wales] has worked so hard to host the tournament and my message to our fans would be the same as it’s always been, show everybody why you are the best and support our best young talent.”

      79. LOUIE BRADBURY RELISHING FIRST CYMRU U19 EURO CALL-UP

Manchester United forward Louie Bradbury says relishing his first Cymru Under-19 EURO call-up as the young striker prepares to represent his country at this summer’s finals in north Wales.

The teenager has enjoyed a breakthrough few months, earning international recognition after impressing in Cymru’s Under-19 set-up and scoring his first goal for the side against Sweden earlier this month.

“It’s been brilliant news,” he said. “Me and my family have been itching for the news for the EURO squad. When I got the call, it was just brilliant news, and I was just so proud, like my family was as well.

“As a young lad, you go to these camps and you try and impress. As a striker, the only way to impress really is to get on the scoresheet. To score was a great feeling, and I was just over the moon. My family were proud as well, especially because they were out there watching.”

      80. ANGHARAD JAMES REFLECTS ON HOME EURO MEMORIES

As Cymru prepares to host the UEFA Men’s Under-19 EURO finals this summer, Cymru captain Angharad James can still remember the last time Cymru staged a major UEFA youth tournament.

James was part of the Cymru side that competed at the UEFA Women’s Under-19 European Championship in 2013, gaining valuable experience against some of Europe’s top young players in front of home support.

“It was a very long time ago, but it was a very special moment,” James said. “To get that exposure at such a young age, to have the privilege of playing for my country, but also to play against some of the best teams in Europe, really set me up for the career that was ahead.

“It’s a really proud moment,” said Clarke. “Every call-up for your country is a proud feeling and especially for a major tournament that we’re hosting.

“I never really thought about representing Cymru in three EURO finals,” he admitted. “I saw it in one of the articles the other day and thought, yeah, this is a great feeling. Personally, it’s a big achievement for me and my family, and one that I hold very proudly.”

“I never really thought about representing Cymru in three EURO finals. I saw it in one of the articles the other day and thought, yeah, this is a great feeling. Personally, it’s a big achievement for me and my family, and one that I hold very proudly.”

      82. ADAM BRETT READY TO SHINE FOR CYMRU AT EURO U19

Adam Brett was 16-years-old and completing his GCSE’s when he represented Cymru at the EURO U17 finals in 2024, and is now relishing the opportunity of hosting Europe’s elite at U19 level this summer.

“There’s no better feeling than representing your country,” explained the Brighton & Hove Albion striker to FAW.cymru on camp earlier this week. “You’re doing it for your family and for the fans, and getting back with the team is really fun. It’s a really good environment and I’m buzzing to be here.

“It will be amazing playing at one of the oldest stadiums in the whole world,” added Brett. “Getting all the fans behind our backs and showcasing our talent to them. I know our team will have a lot of family and friends watching, the fans will be excited, and we’ll be excited to see them. It should be a really positive, fun atmosphere.

“They’re some of the best teams in Europe so we know they’re going to have a lot of high quality, but we trust ourselves and we know we’re a great team. We’ve been each other for a while and we know each other. It’s probably something everyone’s dreamed about since they were a little kid, putting on the badge and walking out on the Cae Ras. It should be really enjoyable, and just can’t wait for it to start.”

      83. LUIS GARDNER MAKES SPECIAL SCHOOL RETURN AHEAD OF U19 EURO FINALS

Luis Gardner made a special return to his former high school, Ysgol Dinas Brân, this week ahead of representing Cymru at the UEFA Under-19 EURO finals on home soil.

“It felt great to be back and to see so many familiar faces. I spent most of my teenage years here, so it’s really special to be back,” said Gardner.

“Coming back today brought so many memories back,” he admitted. “Doing my GCSEs, playing football with my friends and much more. They were all good memories with great people.

“It’s nice to come back and share the experiences that I had in school, but also in my career to date. Hopefully, it inspires them to chase their dreams and believe that everything is possible.”

“I’m really pleased with the final squad,” explained Gunter as he confirmed his 20 players this week. “The opportunity to play in a home tournament is massive. To play in front of our own fans in our own country is something that we never get to do, it’s one I’m really excited about and I know the players can’t wait to get going. It’s a huge opportunity for us.”
