Four League Debuts in Big Division Three Opener

The 2026/27 North East Wales Division Three season gets underway this Saturday, with ten teams in action across five opening-day fixtures.

The division expands to 11 clubs for the new campaign, with five newly formed sides joining the competition as they begin their journey in the North East Wales senior football league structure.

Among the newcomers are Wrexham Foresters and Mostyn, who will meet on the opening weekend as both clubs look to make a positive start to life in the league. In the North East Wales Trophy, Foresters had a tricky start before picking up their first win in a frankly bonkers 13-8 success against Skippy. Mostyn began their season with four games unbeaten before back-to-back losses to finish their League Phase fixtures.

Elsewhere, Marchwiel Saints begin their season with a trip to CPD Gronant, while fellow newcomers Halkyn United welcome Johnstown Youth at Brynford.

The Saints are without a win so far in cup competitions but will look to settle come this weekend in their debut year. Gronant missed out on promotion by three points last year and will be looking to go one better.

Halkyn’s start since beginning their own journey in Welsh senior football has been positive, winning three of their six Trophy games, and taking North Wales Coast East Premier Division side Prestatyn Sports to penalties in the FAW Welsh Cup in their first game.

CPD Cei Connah make the short journey to Deeside Dragons for their opening fixture, with the Dockers’ promotion aims denied by a solitary point last term. Deeside joined Marchwiel as the only sides not to gather anything for their efforts in the Trophy, but an opening day win would put that to bed quickly.

Finally, Skippy host Bellevue in the final encounter of the opening weekend at the visitors’ former home, Bellevue Park. These two finished in the bottom two last year but will be aiming to improve, starting on Saturday.

AFC Weston Rhyn, who have joined the North East Wales football pyramid following approval from both NEWFA and the Shropshire FA, will have to wait until Saturday, 3 October to begin their league campaign, when they welcome Halkyn. At the sixth attempt, Weston Rhyn picked up their first win since switching to North East Wales, hitting six against Skippy in the Trophy last weekend.
