Genero Adran South | Weekend preview

The 2022/23 Genero Adran South season kicks off on Sunday, will all clubs eager to get off to the perfect start.

Reigning champions Briton Ferry Llansawel will be targeting promotion after losing to Wrexham in last season’s play-off and they begin the campaign on home turf against Pontardawe Town.

Ponty finished third in the Genero Adran South last season, with star forward Catryn Cook hitting 13 goals – placing her second in the league’s scoring charts behind Ferry’s Megan Kearle who netted on 20 occasions.

The Reds won all five meetings between the two clubs in league and cup last season, including an emphatic 9-2 triumph in their most recent encounter in April.

Last season’s runners-up Cascade begin the season at home against newly-promoted Coed Duon, who finished second in the SWWGL Combined Division last season – losing only two league matches all year.

Brandon Simpson has joined Cascade as first team manager on the eve of the campaign, while the club have also added former Swansea City academy midfielder Phoebe Ware in the last few days. Coed Duon have also made two new additions this week – experienced pair Lydia Jenkins and Grace O’Reilly.

The two clubs came up against each other in last season’s Genero Adran Trophy group stage, with Cascade winning 5-0. New Coed Duon signing Sian Rees was among those who found the net.

Newly-promoted Cwmbran Celtic are at home on Sunday afternoon, welcoming a Caldicot Town side who finished bottom of the Genero Adran South last season.

However, it has been a summer of rebuilding for Caldicot boss Kellan Webb and they will be keen to test themselves against a team who finished third in the SWWGL Combined Division last season and averaged over 3.5 goals per game.

The final newly-promoted team Llanelli Town are in action against Swansea University at Stebonheath.

The Reds have achieved back-to-back fourth place finishes in the SWWGL Combined Division so will feel ready for the step up to the second tier, while their visitors will aim to improve on a fourth-place finish in the Genero Adran South last term.
