Llanuwchllyn and Holyhead Hotspur will meet in the Ardal North play-off on Friday 16 May (KO 19:30) at Y Traeth in Porthmadog.

The two sides will battle it out to be the third and final team promoted to the JD Cymru North for the 2025/26 campaign.

Rhyl 1879 and Brickfield Rangers have already confirmed their spots in the second tier for next season after being crowned champions in the Ardal North West and Ardal North East respectively.

The Lilywhites finished 10 points clear of Holyhead Hotspur at the top of the table, while Brickfield’s title battle went down to the final day as they triumphed 6-0 over Radnor Valley last weekend to pip Bow Street to the trophy.

However, with Bow Street not applying for a Tier 2 licence, third-place Llanuwchllyn are the Ardal North East’s representative in the play-off for the second consecutive season.

Sion Tudor’s side were beaten on penalties by Llay Miners Welfare last year, but have enjoyed another strong campaign to sit on the brink of promotion again.

They had the joint-best defence in the Ardal North East with just 29 goals conceded in 30 games, while they won four of their final five matches of the season – netting 21 goals in the process. Striker Meilir Williams finished top of the division’s scoring charts with a remarkable 38 goals in 29 matches.

Llanuwchllyn also made headlines in the JD Welsh Cup this season, as they defeated top-flight side Newtown on penalties in the second round.

Friday’s opponents Holyhead Hotspur also earned giant-killing pedigree in the JD Welsh Cup this term, as they knocked out Caernarfon Town on penalties.

The Anglesey outfit are aiming to return to the JD Cymru North after two seasons in the third tier. Following a fourth-place finish in the Ardal North West in 2023/24, Darren Garmey’s side finished as runners-up this time around.

Like Llanuwchllyn, Hotspur held the best defensive record in their division with only 25 goals conceded in 30 games. At the other end of the pitch, former JD Cymru Premier frontman Cory Williams is the name to look out for after netting 15 league goals this term.
