The 2026/27 North East Wales Division Two season gets underway this Saturday with eight teams in action across four opening-day fixtures.
Ten clubs will compete in the division this season, with newly promoted AFC Deeside and CPD Caerwys joining the competition as the new campaign begins along with Chirk and Ruabon Rovers.
The opening weekend sees Brymbo welcome Cefn Druids in an all-Wrexham encounter, with both sides looking to continue to make a positive start to the new season. Both qualified for the Knockout Round of the Trophy, each picking up 12 points from a possible 18, and will want to carry that momentum into the new league season.
Elsewhere, CPD Yr Wyddgrug host Ruabon Rovers, the latter of which suffered relegation from Division One last year. This season will be the perfect time to regroup, and they’ve also found success in the Trophy by qualifying for the Play-Off Round. Yr Wyddgrug will themselves look forward to the Knockout Round after finishing 6th and beating Mostyn 7-0 last weekend.
Overton Rec begin their campaign at home to Holywell United after falling just short of a promotion spot last term. Holywell tasted defeat back in July in the FAW Welsh Cup, but haven’t been beaten in the eight games in all competitions since.
Newly promoted AFC Deeside will make their Division Two debut away to Sychdyn United, looking to build on last season’s success as they step up to the higher level. Sychdyn missed out on Division One football by just a point last year in a dramatic finale against title winners Acton.
Chirk AAA will have to wait until Saturday, 3 October to begin their league season whilst newly-promoted Caerwys begin later that month.
With four new sides in the expanded league and plenty looking to step up, it’s set to be a thrilling campaign.
