The Cymru Football Foundation’s Environments for Her fund is helping clubs across Cymru create safe, welcoming and inspiring for women and girls who take part in the grassroots game.
12 months on from Cymru’s history-making qualification for the UEFA Women’s Euros in 2025, Cymru Women’s National Team Head Coach Rhian Wilkinson visited Graig Villa Dino FC in Newport, whilst defender Mayzee Davies returned to her former club, Flint Town United.
Both clubs have benefitting from investment to improve their facilities, ensuring women and girls have access to safe, comfortable and inclusive off-field spaces.
Speaking during her visit, Wilkinson praised the work being undertaken at grassroots level to make football more accessible and inclusive:
“Funding like Environments for Her are incredibly important because it makes our young girls and women feel like they equally belong in places and spaces that for a long time have felt like they were built for men.
“Just knowing that they have access to bathrooms, showers with curtains, clean and new changing rooms that are welcoming makes them know that football is their sport too.”
Returning to where her footballing journey began, Davies reflected on her own experiences of the grassroots game and the importance of creating facilities that inspire the next generation of players.
Recognising the success of Wilkinson’s team on the pitch – as well as leaving a legacy across the country – £1million has been invested by the CFF to over 20 clubs over the last 12 months.

Since 2022, we’ve created 56% more access to facilities for women and girls through our investments.
