Ysgol Y Creuddyn is now home to a new state-of-the-art 3G and changing facilities thanks to investment from the Cymru Football Foundation, Conwy County Borough Council and Welsh Government.
The seven-figure investment sees a brand-new, full-size artificial pitch coupled with off-field facilities erected at the secondary school in Penrhyn Bay.
The new facility will provide a safe, welcoming space for players whilst also offering much-needed training and playing facilities for local grassroots clubs.
The completion of the project at the secondary school sees the total invested into Conwy by the CFF top £1.1million – with projects also supported in Llanfairfechan and Ysgol Bryn Elian.
Beyond the structural improvements, the new facility also carries deep cultural significance. A mural honouring ex-pupil and former Cymru international David Vaughan alongside Cymru legends Neville Southall and Cheryl Foster.
The artwork serves as both a tribute to their invaluable contribution to Welsh football and an inspiration to young players using the new facility, highlighting the ambitions to develop future international players and recognise proud local heritage.

“We’re delighted that the facility at Ysgol Y Creuddyn is now open and will provide better experiences for players, coaches and spectators. This project is a perfect example of how collaboration can bring communities across Cymru closer to the game.
“A huge thank you to UK Government, the Football Association of Wales and the Premier League for their continued support – together we’re working to improve Welsh football on and off the pitch.”
Councillor Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Education said:
“This is an investment in improving access to sport and physical activity for both Ysgol Y Creuddyn and the wider Penrhyn Bay community.
“The all-new weather pitch will ensure pupils and local clubs can enjoy reliable high-quality facilities throughout the year, supporting health, wellbeing and community cohesion now and for many years to come.”
The half a million pound investment from the CFF was made possible by UK Government. DCMS’s multi-sport grassroots facility programme has committed £5.6million to support the development of grassroots facilities across Wales.

Since 2022, the Cymru Football Foundation has invested over £25million into high-quality football facilities across the country.
