The Cymru Football Foundation is delighted to unveil our latest Fit-For-Future Facilities funded project at Underhill Park in Mumbles, Swansea.

In partnership with UK Government – the CFF have supported the creation of a brand-new full size dual pitch all-weather 3G with a grant of £190,000 alongside partnership funding from Mumbles Community Council, Swansea Council and Sport Wales.

The existing grass pitches at Underhill Park are in huge demand and subject to regular flooding, which has a big impact on cancellation of training and matches. Underhill Park is shared by multiple clubs and the cost of regular pitch upkeep coupled with regular flooding in the winter months has resulted in a huge increase in running costs.

Home to Mumbles Rangers, the new facility will allow their 27 teams to fulfil fixtures regularly through the winter months alongside neighbouring sports teams including Mumbles RFC and Newton Athletic FC.

The new facility – developed by Mumbles Community Association – will also be available to local primary schools free of charge and allow opportunities for children to take part in regular physical activity, continuing our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of a nation.

“The new all-weather pitch is a game changer for local sport, and we are thrilled to see the long-term plans for providing top notch facilities for the local community finally come to fruition.  It is going to be exciting to see the impact this will have, both for the teams already using the park and for the new teams and players who will be attracted to participate in sport at Underhill.

“We are enormously grateful to the Cymru Football Foundation for supporting us with their grant, which completed the funding jigsaw and has enabled the development to happen.”

David Wilson, Trustee and Vice Chair of Mumbles Community Association

“This new facility in the heart of Mumbles will benefit so many in the local community and we’re so pleased that we can support a project of this magnitude.

“A huge thank you to UK Government for their support – we look forward to continuing to work with our partners to achieve our goal of Inspirational and Fit-For-Future Facilities across Wales.”
