Campaigning in Football
Raising Awareness of Key Messages
Football can be a great vehicle to deliver important messages on key topics to highlight issues that still exist in football and society, to both raise awareness and provide education.
Supporting awareness periods and days is a great way to help reiterate the Club’s stance on discrimination and in showing your support for the work of various campaigns.
Demonstrating your support can also be another key way to show you are a welcoming Club to different communities and understand some of the challenges they face.
You can get involved in campaigning in football by:
- Designating a match day to a campaign as part of their awareness period/day where players and members can wear dedicated t-shirts or merchandise such as badges.
- Hosting an event inviting guest speakers from an organisation or your community to discuss key messages.
- Providing educational workshops/content for Club members.
- Sharing the matchday activities/event and key messages across social media platforms. Many organisations can provide templates and images for Clubs to use.
There are many campaigns that your Club can support, some examples are:
- Show Racism the Red Card Month of Action
- Football V Homophobia/Transphobia Weeks of Action
- Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces
- Level Playing Field’s Unite for Access
