Cymru to face Romania in Bucharest

Cymru will face Romania in Bucharest on Saturday 6 June (KO time TBC), where the two sides will face each other for the first time since 1993.

The match will take place at the 31,000-seater Steaua Stadium in Bucharest following a friendly four-days prior for Craig Bellamy’s side against Ghana at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 2 June.

The last time the sides met was in a key 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Cardiff, where goals for Gheorghe Hagi and Florin Raducioiu broke Welsh hearts and secured Romania’s place in the tournament.

The news of the announcement follows the sad passing of Romania’s Head Coach, Mircea Lucescu, last week. The Football Association of Wales sends its condolences to Lucescu’s family, friends, and everyone at the Romanian Football Federation.

Following the June international window, Cymru will begin their UEFA Nations League A campaign in the autumn, where they will face Denmark, Norway and Portugal.

Ticket information for the fixture against Romania will be announced in due course.
