Bangor City 1876 won the Dragon Signs Amateur Cup in style, converting their chances to secure a 3–1 victory over Pontardawe Town at Park Avenue.
Bangor came out of the blocks quickly, with Corrig McGonigle receiving an early chance from a ball over the top. It didn’t take long for them to break the deadlock when in the 12th minute, Declan McManus rose highest to meet a Josh Carey cross, beating Steffan Jenkins to the ball to head his side into a 1-0 lead.
The contest for the goal resulted in a lengthy break in play, as McManus and Jenkins were both forced off to receive treatment following a clash of heads. After a 16-minute delay, Bangor held their lead going into half-time.
They resumed their pressure on the Pontardawe goal after the restart, but it was Jesse Meacock who tested Carl Jones in the Bangor net following good play down the right. Jones was called into action again soon after, producing a fine save to tip a Samuel Harrison strike over the bar and keep Bangor ahead.
Adam Long had missed a chance from a set piece in the first half but made no mistake in the second. Corrig McGonigle stepped up to take a free-kick after Pontardawe captain Berry brought down Carey. The effort was tipped onto the bar, but the rebound fell kindly to Long, who headed home to double Bangor’s advantage.
The Citizens continued to apply pressure, forcing Nat Osborne into a couple of saves from McGonigle. However, he could do nothing to stop Tommy Creamer, who was played through by Carey and finished coolly into the bottom right corner to make it three.
Pontardawe substitute Jake Barrow managed to snatch a late consolation goal for the South Wales side, as his strike from the edge of the box found its way into the bottom left corner.
At the full-time whistle, Bangor lifted the Amateur Cup to add to their successful season, having also topped the Ardal North West and reached the Welsh Cup semi-final.
