Briton Ferry Llansawel stage comeback to win Bute Energy U16s Cup Final

Briton Ferry Llansawel staged a superb second half comeback to triumph 4-2 against The New Saints and lift the Bute Energy U16s Cup at Park Avenue.

The Saints seemingly had control of the Final as they led by two goals at the break, but Ferry roared back to secure victory and leave their opponents stunned.

TNS, who had scored 23 goals in the three previous rounds of the competition this season while not conceding, broke the deadlock after just five minutes as Erin Barton found the net.

Evie Wigley doubled the advantage just after the half hour mark as she scored her ninth goal in four matches in the Bute Energy U16s Cup this season.

However, whatever was said in the Briton Ferry dressing room at half-time clearly worked, as the Reds pulled a goal back through Gwennan Folkes just seven minutes into the second period. Rhodri Gruffydd’s side were then level soon after the hour mark when Eva Young tucked the ball home.

Momentum was firmly with Ferry at Park Avenue and they completed the turnaround to lead for the first time in the 75th minute thanks to a stunning strike from Maizie Stiens.

Stiens sealed victory as she scored her second of the afternoon in stoppage time, making sure that the silverware headed to south Wales.
