Cardiff City are one game away from winning an impressive fourth straight Bute Energy Welsh Cup title and it’s an opportunity that the squad don’t want to let slide.
As forward Fiona Barry explained, there’s an expectation when you play for a club like Cardiff City, and Sunday represents another chance for them to meet those expectations.
“We knew at the start of the year what the goals were for this upcoming season, and that was to try and win everything again. That’s what we set out to try and do, and we’re focusing now on getting two out of three.”
2025 Bute Energy Welsh Cup Final
This has been Barry’s first season in Wales and the 18-year-old has settled in in no time.
Finding the back of the net 12 times in all competitions, she has scored some vital goals for Iain Darbyshire’s side, including the winner in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup semi-final against The New Saints.
Along with all the goals there’s been plenty of iconic celebrations too alongside two of her teammates.
“I think my first season here at Cardiff City has gone really well. The staff and the players have all helped me settle in really quickly, and the fans have made me feel really welcome, and overall, it’s been a great first season.
“Myself, Kerry Walklett and Laura Curnock all come over for the games from England, so we always travel together for matches, so we make up celebrations in the car and make sure we’re able to do them on the pitch!”

The trio will be hoping to add another choreographed routine to their repertoire on Sunday when City take on Wrexham at Rodney Parade. It hasn’t been an easy ride for the Bluebirds against the Red Dragons as of late, with the north Walians winning both games in phase two.
However, Barry says City know exactly what they have to do to make amends and lifting the trophy in the last three years will give them plenty of momentum.
“The two defeats in phase two are not what you want and not what you need heading into something like a cup final, however, we know now what we have to do in order to beat them. We have to make sure that we put things right in Newport.
“From winning it over the last three years, it definitely gives us a lot of motivation and confidence heading into Sunday. For us new players, that’s what we need heading into a big event, and we feel that we can win this weekend.”
Every player wants to lift trophies, and Barry has a chance to lift her second on Sunday in her first season with City, and her mind is solely focused on that.
“Doing the double would be great. You come to Cardiff City to win trophies, and for us new players and those who have been here a while, that’s all we will be looking to do.”
