Cymru’s togetherness with Josie Green and Rhiannon Roberts

In Episode Six of The Cwtsh, connected by EE, Cymru stars Josie Green and Rhiannon Roberts are joined by legendary striker Helen Ward to reflect on life in camp and the deep bonds uniting the Welsh squad during the EURO 2025 campaign.

The episode opens with Green and Roberts sharing insights into the squad’s atmosphere. With intensity on the pitch balanced by moments of rest, both players reflect on reconnecting with their families during their day off and their thoughts on the opening group game against the Netherlands.

Beyond the football, fans get a glimpse of the squad’s lighter side. From Lilly Woodham’s secret dance moves to Carrie Jones’s impressive “quier skills” and Ceri Holland’s surprising piano talent, it’s clear there’s plenty of character in camp.

One of the standout moments comes as Roberts reflects on her viral wedding day goal: a memory that perfectly captures the spirit of her dedication to both life and football.

“Unbelievable” Fans and the Power of Legacy

The players took a moment to appreciate the fans who have supported them through thick and thin.

“The fans were just unbelievable,” said Roberts. “We wanted to take it in right from the very start. That first game allowed us to take the anthem in, the fans in, and our families being there.”

Green added, “I’ve never ever seen anything like it. I think it puts into perspective why we are here and who we do it for. It’s such a motivator for us as a team so it’s so nice seeing the impact of legacy inspiring young girls and women in Wales.”

Throughout the episode, the players highlight how important the journey has been—not just for themselves, but for those who’ve supported them along the way, from heartfelt messages at home and in Switzerland, to former coaches and teammates.

For the Cymru team, The Cwtsh isn’t just a podcast—it’s a symbol of family and togetherness.

“Everyone needs a squad,” they say. And for Cymru, that squad includes every player, supporter, and contributor who’s been part of the journey.

Helen Ward Joins The Cwtsh

In the second half of the episode, both Green and Roberts are surprised by a special guest appearance—none other than Cymru legend Helen Ward.

Both players light up recalling their memories on the pitch with Ward. Her prolific goalscoring and leadership helped shape key results and inspired those around her.

Ward opens up about the unique bond within the Cymru camp that’s grown over the years: “It’s the epitome of family,” she says. “From staff, players, and supporters—it’s something special.”

Reflecting on her early days in the national team, Ward describes how the culture of care and connection helped her settle in and thrive, eventually earning over 100 caps for Wales. She pays tribute to Jayne Ludlow’s influence in shaping her goalscoring mentality and the importance of personality and trust within the squad.

A Message to the Next Generation

As the episode draws to a close, Ward delivers a heartfelt message to young girls in Wales dreaming of playing football.

Her journey, filled with perseverance, passion, and pride, stands as a blueprint for aspiring players across the country.“This journey should inspire others,” Ward says—urging the next generation to believe in themselves and the power of football to unite, uplift, and create lifelong bonds.
