Cymru WU17 squad announced for EURO qualifiers

Cymru WU17 Head Coach Pete Wilson has named his squad for the first round of the 2024/25 UEFA EURO qualifying campaign.

Cymru are in League A for the first round and will face Switzerland (23/10), hosts Portugal (26/10) and Slovenia (29/10).

Wilson, who was appointed as Head Coach in August, has selected 20 players for the squad, with eleven of those players being called up from the FAW Girls Academy system.

Introduced in 2021 as part of the FAW’s strategy to develop clear and effective pathways for progression, the FAW Girls’ Academy increases the contact time with our elite girls and provides a competitive games programme for them to develop.

The match against Portugal (KO 5pm Saturday 26 October) will be live streamed on RedWall+ and FAW platforms.

Cymru’s place in League A for the start of the qualifying campaign was secured after an impressive Round 2 campaign last season, which saw the side earn draws against Sweden and Norway.

The teams in League A compete in seven groups, played as single-venue mini-tournaments; sides finishing fourth are relegated to League B for round 2, with the other positions deciding League A seeding for that round. The seven teams joining the finals hosts, the Faroe Islands, in May 2025 will be decided by Round 2, drawn on 6 December and to be completed by 23 March. The tournament will also act as qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
