EURO 2025: Unmissable moments

Jess Fishlock of Wales celebrates scoring for Cymru against France.

As Cymru prepare for their final group match against England at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, take a look back at some of the unmissable highlights from an historic tournament campaign so far.

From a breathtaking squad announcement on the summit of Wyddfa to a record-breaking fan walk in Switzerland, the journey so far has been packed with unforgettable moments that have captured the passion, pride, and spirit of Welsh football and culture like never before.

A Squad Announcement from the Summit of Wyddfa

Earlier in June, Cymru unveiled their squad in a truly iconic fashion — from the summit of Wyddfa (Snowdon), standing 1,085 metres above sea level, overlooking the breathtaking Eryri National Park.

A special press conference and media session were held at Hafod Eryri, the visitor centre at the summit, offering a dramatic and symbolic setting for the historic announcement.

National media outlets attended the event, making the journey via the Snowdon Mountain Railway. Later that day, head coach Rhian Wilkinson visited CPD Talysarn for a football festival hosted on a Cymru Football Foundation-funded pitch, followed by a vibrant Gŵyl Cymru cultural event at Neuadd Ogwen in Bethesda, featuring a Q&A session and a live performance by the band Adwaith.

Cymru EURO 2025 Squad Announcement Video

As Rhian Wilkinson named her squad for Switzerland on top of Yr Wyddfa, this squad announcement video was released across FAW and Cymru social media channels.

The video contains lots of easter eggs that has some kind of significance to the players in the squad.

‘Never Gonna Break Her’: The Official Cymru EURO Anthem

To mark their first appearance at a major tournament, the FAW released an official anthem titled ‘Never Gonna Break Her’, written by Grammy-winning songwriter Amy Wadge and performed by Liss Jones.

The anthem drew from the team’s mantra: For Us. For Them. For Her — celebrating the past, empowering the present, and inspiring future generations. The powerful pop ballad became a rallying cry for a nation united behind a team rewriting history.

Liss Jones, a Merthyr Tydfil-born powerhouse and former The Voice UK contestant, brought both emotional depth and vocal strength to a song that quickly became a fan favourite across streaming platforms.

Jess Fishlock’s Iconic Mural: A First for Europe

Just before the tournament began, a groundbreaking mural of Welsh football legend Jess Fishlock was unveiled at Splott Football Park in her hometown of Cardiff.

As Europe’s first full-sized mural dedicated to a female footballer, the artwork honoured Fishlock’s record-breaking career and her advocacy for women, LGBTQ+ communities, and inclusive sport.

Designed by Welsh artist Regan Gilflin in collaboration with Cardiff-based studio UNIFY, the mural transformed the pitch into a vibrant celebration of identity, community, and legacy.

Supported by Wales Arts International and the Welsh Government, it embodied the spirit of the FAW’s PAWB campaign and the wider Tîm Cymru cultural programme.

The Cwtsh Connected by EE: Bringing Fans Closer

For EURO 2025, The Cwtsh, powered by lead partner EE, offered a never-before-seen window into Cymru’s journey in Switzerland. This daily digital diary room allowed fans, families, and communities across Wales to stay emotionally and virtually connected to the team.

Through video messages, behind-the-scenes clips, and heartfelt fan interactions, The Cwtsh became a space where the team’s culture, camaraderie, and daily life were shared with supporters back home — whether they were tuning in from classrooms in Caerphilly or cafés in Caernarfon.

Team HQ Tours: Behind the Scenes with the Team

Throughout the tournament, Cymru fans were given exclusive access to the team’s daily life in Switzerland, offering a rare glimpse behind the scenes of a historic campaign.

One highlight featured Lois Joel guiding supporters on a behind-the-scenes tour of the team’s base camp, revealing everything from training routines and recovery sessions to the personal rituals players used to prepare for their biggest moments.

Other standout content included a look inside Cymru’s official media day, the unexpected reveal of Joel’s secret piano skills, and a special travel feature following Lily Woodham’s journey to Switzerland — all helping fans connect with the squad like never before.

Record-Breaking Fan Zone Walk in Switzerland

Ahead of the tournament, the FAW partnered with the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) to launch an official away fan guide, helping travelling fans navigate the host cities of St. Gallen and Lucerne

Packed with essential info on transport, food, events, and stadium directions, the guide became an indispensable tool for the Red Wall abroad. To improve real-time engagement, the FAW also launched a dedicated WhatsApp channel, delivering matchday updates and fan news straight to supporters’ phones.

A standout moment came before Cymru’s opening match, when 8,000 Cymru and Netherlands fans took part in a united fan zone walk, setting a new record for the largest joint fan march at a UEFA Women’s EURO event.

Gŵyl Cymru Festival: Culture Meets Football

To celebrate Cymru’s historic qualification, the Gŵyl Cymru Festival brought a nationwide celebration to life. This series of cultural and football-themed events took place across Wales, aligning with each match during the tournament.

From live gigs in grassroots venues to creative workshops and match screenings in local football clubs and arts centres, the festival aimed to unify communities through music, arts, and sport. Gŵyl Cymru amplified the heartbeat of Welsh culture and gave fans a powerful, local way to engage with the team’s journey on the international stage.

Yr Arwyr: Honouring Cymru’s Heroes Through Murals

In a powerful tribute to the squad, the FAW launched Yr Arwyr: Our Cymru Murals—a national project commissioning bespoke murals at schools and football clubs with personal ties to each player. Created by local artists, each mural reflected the identity of the individual player and the character of their home community.

Funded by the Welsh Government’s Euro 2025 Partner Support Fund and rooted in the National Team’s higher purpose—To play for change. To play to inspire. For Us. For Them. For Her.—the murals celebrated both the players and the places that shaped them, leaving a lasting legacy for young people across Wales.

‘Ein Crys Cymru’ Tour: A Shirt That Carried a Nation

On the day of the squad announcement, the FAW unveiled a giant inflatable Cymru shirt at the foot of Yr Wyddfa. Adorned with the names of the selected players, the shirt marked the beginning of the ‘Ein Crys Cymru’ tour, which visited towns and cities across the nation to build anticipation and pride.

For many, the Cymru shirt symbolised identity, resilience, and belonging. When the women’s national team first formed, players wore borrowed men’s kits. It wasn’t until 2019 that they saw their own names printed on their backs—a landmark in representation and recognition that made the 2025 squad all the more meaningful.

Gêm For Her. Gêm For You: A Campaign for Belonging

To accompany the tournament, the FAW launched Gêm For Her. Gêm For You.—a campaign built around the idea that football is not just about playing; it’s about belonging. The campaign celebrated women and girls involved in Welsh football across all areas, from players and coaches to referees, volunteers, and fans.

By sharing real-life stories and experiences, the campaign aimed to inspire confidence and encourage more girls and women to take their first steps into the game. As part of the Our Wales: For Her strategy and supported by the Welsh Government’s EURO 2025 Partner Support Fund, the campaign also offered free opportunities for engagement throughout the summer and beyond.

Chwarae FOR HER: A week of football activations across the country

The impact of Cymru’s qualification for UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 has been felt across the country.

Chwarae FOR HER is a national celebration of women and girls’ football to showcase the power of the game and inspire women & girls, with clubs and local authorities signing up to deliver football activations across Wales between the 5-13 July.
