Former players invited to 150th anniversary celebrations

Former Cymru National Team players are being invited to attend two FAW 150th anniversary events to be celebrated in front of the Red Wall.

Former Men’s National Team players are invited to attend the match against Ghana on Tuesday 2 June (KO 7:45pm), whilst former Women’s National Team players are invited to attend the match against Czechia on Tuesday 9 June (KO 6:00pm). Both matches will take place at the Cardiff City Stadium.

One of the oldest national football associations in the world, the FAW was founded to give Wales a formal presence in international football and has since spent a century and a half shaping, governing and developing the game across the nation, from the earliest international fixtures to the modern global stage, and from grassroots participation to elite performance.

As part of the 150th celebrations, all former Cymru Men’s and Women’s team players at the match will be invited pitch side at half time for an opportunity to be celebrated in front of the Red Wall.

The celebration is part of the launch of a former players association, being arranged by the FAW’s Head of Public Relations and Culture Ian Gwyn Hughes.

The FAW has on record 751 players that have represented the Cymru Men’s team, and 285 players that have represented the Cymru Women’s team, 97 pre-FAW affiliation and 188 post FAW affiliation (1993 onwards).

Any former players wishing to attend the matches are encouraged to complete the application forms by 3pm Thursday 21 May (links below). Enquiries regarding the initiative can be sent to press@faw.cymru.
