The FAW National Coaches Conference 2023 will, once again, be held in Newport.
Coaches from around the world will gather at Dragon Park and the Celtic Manor on the weekend on May 27 and 28.
The full line-up of speakers and topics will be released in due-course but the format will be similar to the 2022 conference, titled The Coach as the Architect of High Performance, which was aligned to the newly launched FAW High Performance Strategy.
The conference saw 16 practical sessions delivered, across two days, with Cymru Women’s Head Coach Gemma Grainger and Cymru Men’s U21 Head Coach Matty Jones kicking off our practical content.
One of the headline acts of the 2022 national conference was Real Madrid Assistant Manager Davide Ancelotti hosting a tactical preview of his team’s journey to the Champions League Final, in which they beat Liverpool 1-0 in Paris.
Other key topics included PSG Assistant Manager Joao Sacramento sharing his vision on playing in a 1-3-4-3 formation and cultivating high-performance environments with former England Rugby coach Brian Ashton.
Practical sessions were delivered by Cardiff City Manager Mark Hudson, Tottenham Hotspur U18 coaches Yaya Toure, Darren Davies, Neil Ryan, of the Manchester United Academy and Cymru U19 and U17 Womens’ coaches Nicola Anderson and Nia Davies.
The FAW also offered extended content on our digital platform with sessions from Manchester United Assistant Eric Ramsay, FAW Head of Performance Tony Strudwick as well as outlining our Research Strategy in Wales with our Head of the Football Centre for Research in Wales, Professor Brendan Cropley.
The weekend was rounded off with former global CEO of advertising and media company Saatchi & Saatchi Kevin Roberts, who discussed leadership in VUCA (Volatile, Unpredictable, Complex, Ambiguous) World.
As the FAW looks ahead to the 2023 conference, FAW Chief Football Officer Dr David Adams said: “Our aim is to always provide a unique learning opportunity with a variety of content that reflects the needs of coaches and practitioners that support the coaching process, this event is part of our vision to offer world class coach education programmes.
“I look forward to welcoming you all to our National Coaches Conference in 2023.
