How to get involved in women’s and girls’ football

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has today confirmed that it has reached a record 20,000 women’s and girls’ players across the country.

For women and girls looking to get started in football, there are several programmes available across Wales, each designed for different ages, confidence levels and interests. Whether they’re trying football for the first time, building new skills, or simply looking for a relaxed place to play with friends, the options below outline the main pathways on offer.

Disney Playmakers (ages 5–8)

Disney Playmakers is a UEFA programme delivered in 142 schools across Wales. It introduces football through the magic of Disney and storytelling. Designed for girls aged 5–8, the sessions use stories such as FrozenMoana and The Incredibles to teach football basics, life skills and fundamental movement skills.

Schools can contact grassroots@faw.cymru to learn more or to sign up.

Huddle (ages 4–11)

Huddle is where girls fall in love with football. With 86 providers across Wales, the programme offers a fun, friendly and pressure-free environment for girls to try the game, make friends and build confidence.

Find your local provider here. Clubs interested in becoming a provider can apply until 28 February 2026.

BE. Football Schools (ages 11–14)

Delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, the BE. Football programme runs in 117 secondary schools across Wales. It aims to develop confidence, leadership, and life skills through football. Each school selects six ‘influencers’ who are trained to run a girls’ football club within their school community.

Schools can contact grassroots@faw.cymru to learn more or to sign up.

BE.FC (ages 12–16)

BE.FC is a football community created for teenage girls, by teenage girls. Offering reduced commitment and a ‘Turn Up and Play’ approach, it provides relaxed and social football sessions for girls aged 12–16.
The programme launched in 2023 and now has 30 providers across Wales.
